For sales volume the 4-door is guaranteed. In the 90's the 4-doors swept away nearly all of their shorter siblings and cousins, and only the Wrangler clung on with only about 20% of units being sold as 2-doors. With the Land Rover Defender and Bronco coming back there will be a little competition for those 2-door sales, but I would expect all of them to be significantly outsold by their longer 4-door versions.

People just imagine they need all that extra capacity to bring junk and people ... yet mostly drive around with empty seats and cargo areas.

Land Rover Defender and Bronco coming back
Actually, the Defender is coming back in 2 iterations: the model just unveiled by Land Rover, and also a new company who will be reproducing the original classic powered by BMW engines, https://projektgrenadier.com/. I've read that we'll be getting them in the USA, but the pace they're moving at makes Bronco look like it's cruising along at Warp 9.

I simply cannot understand people who begrudge others of choices. There are plenty of people who believe we shouldn't have the choice to use a plastic straw, own a fossil-fueled vehicle, or be allowed to drive off-road.

I need the cargo space so 4 door for me. But the 2-door will likely look cooler IMO

I would love a 2 door if I wasn't expecting a kid in the coming years, but since I plan to be, it'll be a 4 door for me. But I definitely hope they debut (and continue to make) a 2 door alongside the 4 door

I will likely get a 4 door, depending on the space offered by the 2-door. Depending on the wheelbase the winner of style could go either way, but I lean 4 door personally. That said, I believe the offering of a 2 door is very important even though I am probably not getting one. Not just to compete more closely with Jeep but to capture that much needed image to make a brand successful.

Form over Function...or Function over Form? Ain't life grand when you have choices?

The amusing thing there is that the 2-door is both the function focused design and the one people find visually appealing. It's a learned appreciation, for what incredible things such a simple little vehicle can do.

Once you add this, add that, add, add, add you ultimately make the vehicle less capable of what it was originally designed for ... it becomes just another bloated luxury barge people are afraid to take off road.

I guess that would depend on what function you are talking about. Not everyone is focused on offroad driving. For some that's a second, third, or even fourth in importance.

Or in my case I am primarily focused in off-road driving but prefer the articulation/traction (index benefit to LWB, but still depends on circumstance) and the stability of LWB over the turn circle or breakover of a SWB. This is not the "image" people have in mind so i'll keep my head low but ultimately the usage case dictates which is more off-road capable
