Was that Silver Lake or something? Where they shot a video.
Silver lake is way farther up north. Great place to wheel.

Silver Lake is about halfway up the state between Muskegon and Ludington. We used to have an absolute blast there in the early eighties. Great place to go if you get a chance.

Excellent thread, much appreciated.

I'm one of those whom have never been on any kind of remotely serious offroad trail. Live in Atlanta, so was thinking of joining up with a local group that heads up into the N Georgia mountains.

Plan to be a sponge and learn everything I can from folks.
SAME!!

I would like to. That video looked fun. Only have 1 buddy with a 4wd and he's all nervous that something would break.

Nice thing about Silver Lake is it’s quite safe with regards to getting in trouble. Ton of people there to help. Weekends.....maybe too much help! The hill climbs are a blast.

Maybe this forum will have"meetups" every now and then. Just like the COG and ADVrider used to (and still might).

I’m sure there will be. Everyone is a bit on edge now but once people have their Bronco, I think it will become much more about fixing them up and where to go and meet.

I like the idea of this thread. First I'm going to start off by saying I've been doing research about offroading/overlanding since the Bronco announced its release, but I don't have any experience yet. But I have found that there are websites and apps out there that help people find trails, and they usually include some rough difficulty ratings. The app All Trails is an example of this.

Follow on questions.

What does easy, moderate, and difficult mean to everyone?

How much difficulty variance (if any) should we prepare for due to wet or muddy trails?

What should a beginner have with them when attempting easy to moderate trails?
your question about easy moderate and difficult can mean different things to different people. This is great question. I recommend going with groups so can have experience to assist and will learn as you go. You have the right idea by asking questions. I am member over overland bound and even as experienced offroader learn a lot of things from others.

Next question is weather. Good job thinking ahead as some trails that are very easy can become dangerous with even just a little rain, lower visibility. experience helps and never go alone with out good comms. (communication as cell doesn't always work)

Ok 101 item.
Never drive with your thumbs inside the steering wheel they go on top (outside) of the wheel. Do not grip the steering wheel like you normally drive.

When you hit a rock, come off a limb, etc the steering wheel will rotate super fast. If your thumb is inside the steering wheel expect pain at a minimum. Skin, tendon, bone damage possible. Sometimes it’s even better to just let go of the wheel until settled down.
This was the first thing I was taught about driving off pavement. No thumbs inside.

The second thing was not to straddle rocks or raised ridges. At first it felt backwards to "aim" for the rocks, but eventually it felt like second nature.
