Great photos and Big Bend is my favorite place in Texas! Been there dozens of times and even wrote a "first time visitors / hiking guide" for the area.

I actually ordered a set right after posting :) .. should get here today I think. I've got the 2 3gallon tanks on the side and yeah.. really expecting these nozzles to work better and in general be safer (for me and my clothes)

Be sure you order the narrow spout attachment since the Bronco has a small hole. ;-)

My M1101 was manufactured in 2010 by Schutt, so I believe it had it. I say had because I removed the surge brake (and then it got stolen? .. I'm guessing it was the only thing light enough to grab when someone came through looking for scrap) and I'm replacing it with electric. I replaced the stock hubs with hubs that match the bronco bolt pattern... later this week I'm making another adjustment and hopefully will be able to get the new spindle/hub/spacer setup to work with the stock bronco wheels.

BTW: if anyone wants some stock suspension parts from this trailer (shocks, hubs, the suspension arms mounted to the cross bar), or the original humvee run flat tires and wheels (tires look new) ... let me know.
Did you experience the performance of the stock surge brake? Was it satisfactory? Thanks

I think I did...and it worked ok... The issue with knowing for sure is that the trailer itself is pretty light (1400lbs) .. and really bouncy empty.. so on the way home there were a few times that it seemed like the brakes kicked in, but I wasn't a hundred percent sure ... I did this trip with it without any brakes at all (and a less bouncy suspension).. and couldn't tell you for sure if there was much of a difference.

From what I've been reading the surge brakes work great (when they work... and when they don't they seem really easy to fix for the most part). But.. yeah, my experience was very inconclusive.

Thank you so much. I've been planning to buy an M1101.

No problem .. I definitely recommend them. Getting setup on govplanet can sometimes take jumping through a couple of hoops, but once you're setup you're good for any of their auctions. The trailers come up a lot .. in multiple configurations (empty like I had, sometimes with soft covers.. sometimes with hard covers.. and I'm sure other variations). I wouldn't feel pressured on any auction to really push your bid up. The auctions are short (I think like 5-10 minutes) and they run the items generally one at a time .. you do it all online, and you can just set a max bid amount in advance like you would on ebay. So if you miss out on one trailer you can quickly hop to another listing and bid on that one. And if they all go high for some reason that week (or look beat up), just wait till the next batch. I'm considering buying a second one just for lowes and dump runs and leaving it "stock" (minus the lights).

Quick note about the lights .. mine had all led already except for the turn signals and brake lights. Swapping those to led bulbs also made them 12v compatible (most of the led bulbs are 12v/24v compatible). I wired a 7 pin connector to the existing wiring.. and this turned into a pain in the ass. Mostly because the docs for what wire colors go to what pins are nearly none existent .. or the colors have changed ... I ended up finding a 12 pin diagram, then using a multimeter to figure out which pins went to which color wires ..... then was an idiot about it and had everything reversed right to left because I was looking at the pin out view, but working with the socket end ... anyway, finally all sorted and all good :)

It always comes down to getting the lighting rewired.......with difficulty. The supply of M1101s is greater than the demand. Buying used military trucks/trailers ect. was soooo much easier in the old days.

Hey @Draughon, is this Big Bend guide something that I can find on the internet? I am going to be planning a trip there.

@LewyOnMars I know this thread is a bit older but I recently picked up an m1101 trailer as well and have be refitting it for my overlanding needs.

I would love to know more about your hub/wheel swap that you did, do you have any of the specs on this?

I'm wanting to put 35's on the trailer (to drop it down some) and to match the same lug pattern as my Bronco. This way when I'm out on the trail I'll have interchangeable spares. I'll most likely buy some used Sasquatch wheels to put on the trailer and haul an extra spare with me as well.

I'm happy with the surge breaks so I'm not looking to completely replace the hubs and don't think i need to drop the suspension like you did on yours, I think I really only need about and inch or two to level it.

My setup is using a timbren suspension with 6 lug hubs that have electric brakes (and a parking brake feature so I can still use the levers to hold it in place). I did what you're talking about and bought takeoffs from someone else with a wildtrak .. full set of 5 rims... Great deal 😁 ... Did the same for my wife's mustang .. got her a set of dark horse rims for less the the cost of one rim from he dealer (she does rally and track events).

Anyway...

If you want to keep the stock components, you could try a 8 lug to 6 lug adapter.. it'll push the wheels out about 2 inches.. but even with that the Ford rims might not be able to fit over the center of the hub (on my timbren setup I had to use a spacer because the Ford rim wouldn't fit over the hub/grease cap on the hub... The hub that's already on there is quite a bit larger than the one that I replaced it with).

Otherwise if you want to keep the surge brake, you'll have to search around and see if you can find a compatible hub to replace the existing one with... And I don't recall seeing any (but.. I also decided to switch the to the timbren setup pretty early.. so there definitely could be a good replacement out there).

Awesome! Thanks for the info! I’ll dig in a bit and see what I can sort out.

how much does a m1101 weight, doesn't the trail weigh eat up much of the towing capacity of a bronco/

Stock it's just under 1500lbs .. I haven't weighed my setup, but I believe I'm closer to 1200lbs at this point.. maybe less (lighter wheels/tires , lighter suspension/hubs .. which also required cutting out some plates, removed the surge brake, .. added a tow hitch in the back (for my bike rack) which would have added a little bit of weight back).
