Figured I'd test out the Bronco with a 6x12 cargo trailer for a local scout troop i've been a part of for decades. It's a 22 badsquatch, lux, tow, you get the point. Here's a pic without the Andersen weight distribution hooked up. it doesn't look like it, but the bronco squatted about 1 1/4 inches. This trailer is a touch over 3500 pounds and has about 450 pounds of tongue weight.

now with the weight distribution tensioned. (notice the extra chains running parallel to the trailer tongue). I tensioned enough to put me back to 1/4 inch of sag vs 1 1/4.

Did a quick road test since I don't have a brake controller in here (yet) and you can tell the bronco just wants to go! I went up to 60 MPH and did a few quick jerks of the steering wheel to make sure it stayed planted, and there's really no harshness to the ride.

here's a pic of the andersen hitch a little closer (they've changed the design on these around 2016, but i've had this one for quite a long time):

and here's a better side profile shot:

Now to order up a brake controller and wiring harness. Mirrors on the bronco allow me to see around the trailer without any issue. No way i would have been able to do this with my JLUR, i tried once and couldn't see around it, and it didn't feel comfortable pulling down the street.

another +1 for ford knocking it out of the park with the bronco.

We have a similiar trailer in my boys' Troop. The GVWR of our trailer is 7500lbs but I have no idea what the trailer weighs with our typical load out. Fortunately, we have somebody with an F150 to tow for now.

i pulled across a CAT scale this morning with my truck that you can barely see in the pics. it came out to 3700 pounds with the normal loadout. i figured it was under 4000 based on other trailers i've pulled with a known weight of almost 8000 pounds. (gas pedal input). here's the cat scale ticket showing truck and trailer combined.

the axles alone are showing 3420 on the scale. but subtracting out the truck only ticket had us basically 3700.

How on earth did you get that much steer axle weight?

I'm looking for a little 5x8-6x10 range trailer but only want a single axle.

that steer axle weight is a ram 2500 power wagon pulling it, not the bronco. i wanted to weigh the trailer to know if it was safe or not before trying with the bronco.

If your trailer still has all the stickers on it. It should have a max payload rating. Subtract that from your GVWR, and that is your trailer weight.

that'll get you close. but curb weight and actual loadout are different. my truck is 8100 pounds with me sitting in it, recovery gear, tire chains, solid steel rock sliders. but the curb weight is like 7500. you need to weigh twice at the scale for the true weight. truck only, then truck and trailer.

Well with both my work trailer (both empty) and my F250, those numbers were within 5lbs. You’re adding stuff, which takes away from total vehicle weight. GVWR minus payload, equals vehicle weight. Do I need to snap pics?

Thank you for sharing. My Bronco will be here any day now WITH the tow package from the factory. Wife and i have been discussing selling the F150 and using the Bronco for our single axle RV trailer. It is 2950lbs dry so even with it loaded (including water) it is under the max of 3500lbs. My fear is it getting squirrely on road. Plan was to set a max speed limit (say 65mph) for myself despite actual road limits (70mph). I'll be that guy on I-82 - apologize in advance.

No thanks. That tail will be wagging the dog in the right conditions. Not a matter of being able to pull. Its a matter of control in crosswinds etc. The bronco by itself cant handle crosswinds easily. When dot pulls you over being over weight on highway you will see how expensive it gets being fined per pound over. Connecticut can charge you with reckless endangerment, which is crazy but its connecticut.Cant wait to retire and leave. Lol

2.7 engine or 2.3? They seem to have the same tow rating.

Does anyone know how Ford got the Braptor tow limit to 4500 lbs? Just curious if there is an aftermarket option to increase the limit in a standard model.

Raptor has a Dana 60 rear axle, I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong

There is no way to ever increase tow or payload ratings on any vehicle. What's on the sticker from the factory is the legal max.

I tow my robotics team trailer, it’s only a single axel and we don’t load much in it. Toolbox, robot, parts totes, and some plastic shelving.
