Car and Driver Article from 1978, really enjoyed reading.

Decent article, accurate on alot. But, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the G2's. My first vehicle was a '79 that I bought at 15(2006ish) absolutely my favorite truck out of the 10 I've had in the last 15 years of driving time

My '79 in '87 when I graduated Nuclear Power School in FL. Bought it there, drove it home to Northern MI and then to our first duty station in NY. It was a beast, 36.5" bias-ply tires (they were great in NY, huge flat spots after sitting overnight), built 400, 4.11's with limited slips, 8-9 MPG no matter how you drove it. After changing the water pump in a NY winter in the driveway, I traded it off for a brand new leftover '87 Escort GT, LOL.

No offense to the FSB crowd, but I think one of the counterpoints at the bottom of the article summed it up for me. I am glad Ford went back to the original roots for the '21.

" If it will tell you anything about my reaction to the new Ford Bronco, let me say that I went out and bought myself a brand new '77 model as soon as I saw the '78. I do not believeā€”as Ford apparently doesā€”that America needs another Blazer/Jimmy/Trailduster/Ramcharger. The old Bronco was nice and small and its square comers were somehow loveable. The new one is big and plush and indistinguishable from all those others I just mentioned. The ride is pitchy, the steering wheel requires constant attention and I almost cut my hand on the seat adjustment lever. The tract-house carpets and rocketship instrument panel affront me. I think Ford put the better idea on wheels with the old Bronco. The new one is just another whopper for me. ā€”David E. Davis. Jr. "

"I'm infatuated with these fat-tired brushbusters" Kinda says it all for me! I would love to have a new Bronco with the simplicity of the 78! But I'm old so....

My 79 out and about last week in Seattle.

Dana 44 SFA, V8 400, roomy 2dr.

Gen2s got a lot right but had bad market timing.

I had a cowl mounted spotlight on my '79 Bronco too. I hated drilling into it but the light was handy!

I spent a lot of time in a 78. My buddy got one in college. He converted the full time to locking hubs. 351 with headers 4 barrel and some other minor tweaks. Had a 4" lift and 33" M/T. It was a beast off road. We wrecked it over Christmas break, sending a couple of us to the hospital, another story. The driving impressions were spot on. A bit vague on the road, seemed just right off road. Pretty similar overall to my LJ, but a better ride from memory. Good power for the day, but I am willing to bet is had less power and was way slower than the slowest 6G. I loved the article for sure, thanks for sharing!!!!!

I had a 5G and two Bronco IIs. I liked each for different reasons, but I always thought the Bronco II was much closer to the original Bronco than my 5G. Size wise, the 6G is a nice split IMO, takes a bit of the best of both worlds.

Housewives may like this sort of wimpy four-wheeler, but this Bronco isn't the sort of thing you'd imagine messing up with guns and dogs and beer coolers and red Georgia clay. Ford seems intent on taking the Bronco out of the men's locker room and making it useful and appealing. Maybe it is. But what's so great about a rational truck? ā€”Michael Jordan

Hilarious. Stick to hoops, #23!

Have them on both sides. They are amazingly useful and controllable from inside the cab. It really makes me want directionally controlled pod lights on the 6G.
