A Month on the Road - Live Updates

I started my road trip yesterday heading from Portland to the Bay Area. It was just over 600 miles and it took me 11 hours. The Bronco did great although at close to 80mph the mpg is… disconcerting. But the seat is comfortable and the ACC makes it an easy drive. I’ll stay here for a couple days (picking up my Inspired Overland RTT tomorrow) and then heading out. I’m trying not to plan too much but I’m thinking my next stop will be Johnson Valley and find the Bronco plaque. Then Nevada and then up to Sand Hollow. I’m meeting my brother in SLC and then want to head to Moab.

The Bronco picked up some stubble last night. Otherwise known as driving through a mosquito fog. Luckily I was able to wash it today.

Picked up my RTT from Inspired Overland in Hayward, CA today. Great company to work with. They put it up on my rack and I’ll bolted it on. Can’t wait to try it out soon!

Barstow. Almost to Bronco Knoll. It’s very windy in Barstow but it’s supposed to much calmer in Lucerne Valley. I hope so because the RTT would take a beating.

Stop to see the Off Roadeo I went to in 2022. Looks like they are sprucing up the entrance.

I can tell you it’s the only f’n rest area open in California. If you’re going to renovate your rest areas at least to every other one.

Woke up early this morning. It’s been relatively cool.

Going to Sand Hollow (after laundry) and do some easy trails.

Went exploring around Sand Hollow today. Lordy, OnX Off-road app sucks. You would think you could find a trail and hit start and it would show you the way. But no. At one point I’m on a 5/10 rated trail. There were some serious pucker moments. While I got them on video I’m sure everyone will just scoff. Camped out by the lake tonight. Lots of bats eating lots of bugs.
