Happened to me the other day (thankfully on the freeway and not on the dirt) - proceeded by the speedo displaying 1/2 the actual speed.

I looked down to discover I was going 40 rather than 80. I suspected it was coming and then it did. Cleared itself next time I started it.

The dealer swapped the right and left wheel speed sensors 2 months back, but the error shows as still being in the right rear sensor. So in my case, it ain't the sensors. My suspicion is wiring somewhere.

When they do drop a TSB, I'm definitely gonna make the dealer apply it.
Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

PM sent. I'd like to get this put to bed as it's a major safety issue off road.

Same issue with intermittent ABS warnings. When it happens, it feels like the normal brakes aren't working at all and it stops by engaging the emergency brake (tires lock and squeal when stopping). Left it at the dealer last night and they said it's a software issue that Ford is aware of with no resolution timeframe. Did anyone else get told this?
Mine went in Oct 3rd for the same issues. It's cleared itself 4 times already. Dealer said they got all the codes and would check it out. It didn't sound too promising. So, because mine is a Hennessy build I contacted the warranty specialist and he told me that Ford is aware of the issue. It seems somewhere between late 21' and early 22' the ABS module supplier was changed, they just recently tried a software update and it didn't take. Ford is trying to figure it out but no time frame was given. I'll keep my fingers crossed for November, there goes rolling into HuntCamp and a perfect birthday morning.

I just bought a 22 OBX for my wife on Saturday 10/8. It had 27 miles on it at purchase and almost all of those were from our test drive so she and I are almost the only people who've ever driven it. This fault has now occurred five times.

1 - 10/8 ~60mi: My wife was driving it near home. While turning left all of the lights came on and FordPass reported a fault on the RR corner. I crawled under the car, reseated the RR wheel speed sensor and checked that the rear axle harness was connected securely. Drove the car a little and the faults cleared. Scheduled a service appointment for 10/18.

2 - 10/9 ~70mi: I drove the car to run an errand. On the way back I tapped the brakes to slow down before a big pothole and the same set of lights and messages came on immediately (before said pothole). Fordpass reported an issue with the RR wheel speed sensor. Took the car back out that evening and the faults cleared, tried to replicate fault and couldn't.

3 - 10/10 ~140mi: I drove the car to run an errand. On the way there the same set of lights and messages came on while driving on a smooth dirt road. Fordpass reported an issue with the RR wheel speed sensor. Fault cleared after a half mile after letting vehicle sit off.

4 - 10/11 ~240mi: I drove the car on another errand. On the way there all the same lights and messages popped up. Fordpass reported an issue with the RR wheel speed sensor. This time it was on a straight recently paved side road.

5 - 10/13 ~365mi: Wife was driving to work on the freeway with cruise control engaged. Vehicle started accelerating unexpectedly, and speedometer read 40mph at freeway speeds. Brakes did not appear to function correctly until fault lights and messages appeared at which time the speed readout reset to the correct value and the brakes engaged correctly.

This is incredibly unacceptable. I'm a chassis controls engineer and one of the wheel speed sensor experts at a competing OEM. I purchased the Bronco because my wife really them and my company doesn't offer anything similar.

I was pretty casual about the issue for the first three because while annoying I had no reason to believe it was a serious issue and thought it might just be a poorly calibrated erratic wheel speed diagnostic or flaky sensor that couldn't handle the bad roads around my house. I figured worst case we could provide some data to get things corrected for the rest of the Bronco owners. I've fixed issues like this and actually have a couple patents on this stuff so I knew it's a difficult problem and mistakes or oversights happen.

When I got the fourth fault on fresh pavement I started getting concerned that something more serious may be happening but the fifth fault is over the line. It's not just that my particular vehicle is having this issue but the behavior my wife described is unconscionable and a very severe functional safety issue.

Essentially in the space of a minute or so my wife experienced both an unintended acceleration hazard and a loss of decel hazard on a car with 365 miles on it. There is something fundamentally wrong with the brake software if detection of a faulty wheel speed sensor is slow enough to produce either of those hazards at the severity my wife described. I'm concerned that bad wheel speed sensor or not some corners were cut and this software should have never passed validation. The fact that it's on customer vehicles shows a shocking disregard for customer safety.

#5 would concern me as well, sounds like a really delayed fault recognition, and in the interim between failed sensor and fault recognition calculating the reference speed with one of the two rear wheelspeed sensors reading zero - in effect cutting the vehicle speed being reported to the cruise control in half (and way below the setpoint).

Please follow with this thread after you get the ford motor company drop into this thread to take you offline and get your Vin and dealer. FoMoCo account will likely do this tomorrow but it seems like you likely know enough about the issue and the industry to get some actual feedback. I am also concerned about the safety aspect here and have asked for meaningful feedback here from FoMoCo on this thread to update on resolution. I actually rarely drive my bronco anymore because I just don’t know . . . Hope you can shake some answers lose.

Hi Ford Motor Company,

Thanks for showing interest in these peoples issues.

I am wondering if you could get an actual engine engineer to weigh in on why the owners manual has had 7qts for engine oil fill capacity for 2.7L published for two years all of a sudden change to 6qts? Also get them to explain why our broncos are 7.5 qt filled from factory? I understand that you all sent out SSMs to change but would really like the design professionals to explain why it changed as it doesn’t seem to make sense to a whole lot of us.

I spent $60,000 dollars (more with interest after life of loan) really enjoy driving the bronco, and want to have it for as long as possible.

Thank you
I'm sure there will be more info shared at some point, however if they go through the effort to announce a change like this, I'm going to say there's sufficient reason. 6 qts vs 7 isn't going to hurt the engine, or 7 vs 6. Certainly not the first time engineers have changed their minds on something.

Also, not relevant to this thread.

I had a similar set of alarms happen about a week after I took delivery. I turned it off and on and that didn't clear the error. After parking for a couple hours when I started it up everything as clear. That was about 2 weeks ago and nothing has come up since. Should I get mine in the dealership to be looked over? I wasn't able to take a picture of the alerts on the dash but did screenshot what showed up in Fordpass on my phone.

Sadly have to add my 21 Badlands to the list. 10k miles, was driving down highway and dash lit up with Pre-Collision Assist not available, Service AdvanceTrac, Check 4x4. It will reset when you restart the vehicle but does it every time you are pressing the gas pedal and hit a bump of any kind. Been at the dealership for a week now. First they said it was a software issue and they fixed it but it literally happened driving it back off the lot so I turned right around. Now they have been "waiting to hear back from Ford Engineering for 4 days."
To add to the codes the Ford Pass app shows a Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power but that does not show on the dash. The vehicle does reduce power when starting out but seems to be just fine once you hit 3rd gear

Hi there! I can look into your Bronco's warning message concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Bronco's VIN?

@FordMotorCompany official account - to get started could you please send the users of this thread some idea of what’s going on here - We already know there are several people on this thread you (if you are a you and NOT an AI text bot) contacted. Can you PLEASE tell us something about why this is happening. It would be really awesome to get some (any) feedback. Appreciate your time in advance. Thanks.

I had this same thing happen twice. First time while on the trails and it reset itself once I got back onto the highway. It happened again recently so I took the Bronco directly to the dealership. They had my Bronco for 10 days. I sent them this string along with another forum string to tell them is was most likely the speed sensors. Sure enough it was just a loose speed sensor. They charged me $189 for them diagnosing the problem. I was pissed about this considering I solved the problem for them. I am now searching for another dealership. Anyway, if you have this problem, just make sure your speed sensors are completely plugged in. Mine were obviously loose from the factory and it took some aggressive offroading to get them to indicate their looseness!
