This is something a lot of people might balk at but I'm looking into adding a grab handle to the B pillar at head level. There's plenty of options out there for handles, I added a couple.

For starters the inside trim has to come off to see if the structure will support it. Rivnuts might be the best bet here. Then there will be some sort of stand off fabricated to bring the mount flush with the trim, then irreversible holes cut into the trim.

Oh it's on. There's plenty of room to add a supporting structure behind the plastic. And I found a couple oem options which should look better than those I posted, 11-19 Explorer and 15-20 F150. I'm going to stop by the junkyard tomorrow after work and see which fits better.

Good idea. A lot easier to reach than the para-cord grab handles that mount up top. Looking forward to what you come up with.

That's my thinking. The 4 doors have them there on the opposite side of the pillar for the rear seat passengers.

Another option I'm going to look at is 08-10 Super Duty.

The b pillar being set farther back should lend itself well to the handles being to the front. A shorter door would put them right next to your head. Love the longer doors, it’s the only way I fit comfortably in one.

Looks like the v̶i̶c̶t̶i̶m̶ winner is the 15-20 F150 handle. Now to sack up and make some holes.

The grab handles are cool looking, but not very useful. This looks useful and awesome. (y)

My wife uses the dash one to get in but the kid has nothing so he pulls himself up with the dash then side steps back. Combined with side steps this should speed up the process.

Following. My 5yo does the exact same thing. He has to use the front dash grab handle and the seat to pull himself up onto the step, then shimmies his way to the opening to climb into the back seat. I wasn't going to spring for the RSE auto folding steps, so I opted to order the factory steps for my 2 door Basequatch because it sits the lowest of the "fixed" 2 door options. It's still not quite low enough for him, though. Your grab handle idea is 100% the best way to fix this.

Buttoned up the trim today. It's pretty unobtrusive and a big hit with the kiddo.

Great job I love the idea and will be installing one on my 2 door to help my wife get in. Love seeing people willing to fab up a solution to a problem on their ride rather than going to amazon to fix it. thanks for posting all the pics.

The one pic I forgot was the spacers but I'm sure you'll figure that out.
