So what started as me going about installing the Ford Factory Hitch VP2DZ-15A416-B trailer tow kit morphed into more things SINCE I was there. I pulled the factory bumper off my 24’ Badlands w/hilux package. Removing the six bolts was fairly easy. Once I had that removed. I cleaned up all around the area on the frame. Watching many many car restoration shows. I figured. Why not add a couple coats of primer/paint to the frame since it’s exposed. Additionally take a look deep inside the two frame ends. I cleaned that out. And wiped it down really good with isopropyl alcohol. And let it dry. Blew it out with air. Then I sprayed undercoating all inside the frame. I let that dry for two days. Then I top coated it with satin paint to add more protection. I can just see pockets of dirt and sand get here and difficult to clean out. So rust proofing it more. The bracket was taken off that houses the factory harness for the 4/7 pin adapter. Also I pulled the driver side C242 plug and found my Blue/White wire. I’m going to tap into this wiring to run a small wiring harness I’ll make that will power a small set of lights hard mounted on the top side of the bumper corners. (I’m sure in a year I’ll just upgrade the whole rear bumper but for now I’m using it as is.). I already have the headlight switch with front and rear fogs light buttons. And it’s already activated in FORScan.

Once I started pulling the inside panels out. I started adding boom mat for better sound deadening. As well as thermal foam roll. Now this stuff we used when I was building tiny houses and wrapped ducting up to keep it quiet and insulated.

The foam roll is really sticky. On a clean surface this stuff works great for knocking down the noise. And provides a heat barrier. Putting it over the wheel wells I imagine it to reduce tire road noise. I removed all the modules bolted to the wall so I can get as much in as possible. I also used special Nashua tape products to add adhesion on the seems and sides.

Here you can see it applied. I get it at HVAC supply places. I’ve used it on the floor board of my 1980 C3 vette under the carpet and it works great again for noise and temp control.

Additionally since I’m pulling wires apart I am going to upgrade the two interior lights and possibly figure out how to put an overhead led light with a switch.

I did order the Kicker 8” dual voice coil 4ohm sub to swap out in the BnO sup enclosure. My badlands has the BnO sound system.

Got all the sound deadening done. Ready to install the tow control module. And I found the Orange/White tire to hook into the Aux switches.

You don't have enough time on your hands. Looks like you've got a project with a capital "P"!

Interested to hear how well it helps with road noise, let us know.

My son went to Great Lakes yesterday for Boot Camp, he’s hoping to be Air Crew as well. Are you still active duty?

I actually did the same about two weeks ago. One thing leads to another and pretty soon its a mObridge, new sub box and sub, full dynomat cargo area, front seating area and wiring new ditch lights to rewiring GMRS radio under the seat......what a pain.

Did you get the factory hitch installed? If you did, I would like to know if the trailer light check feature was added to your screen? I had the factory hitch installed at the dealer last fall and the feature was not added. The installer had no idea what I was talking about. It's supposed to be there as my brother had his hitch done at the factory before Ford made it a dealer install option. It can be enabled in Forscan but I won't be screwing with that until the warranty expires unless i can convince the dealrship to investigate further and they enable it. Thanks.

Hey. I retired in Aug 2013 with 21 yrs 5 months 8 days. I was a CTOC (SW/AW/NAC/IDW) Chief , started out Cryptologic Tellicomunications Operator (a spook basically) for the first 13 years. Then I got forced converted to an ITC (Info Systems Tech) for the remainder. There was less than 1700 CTO’s E1-E9 in the Navy. Aircrew was by far intense and long duty type. I had over 1078 combat flight hours spanning over 150 missions in Iraq and Afghanistan and other fun places. Three SERE schools with Seals and Forcrecon guys. I wish him well. It’s a tight nit group of people. I learned so much about the P3 and EP3E airframes. Even let me fly over Afghanistan for an hour on my birthday one year. Imagine that. Besides doing the qualifications they assign you, do they ahead of schedule. Besides that. Do the things no one wants to do at times to show dedication and leadership. Not sure if your son is going helos or airplanes. But I loved it. It was something you’d never imagine doing ever. I went to aircrew school in Pensacola FL. Was actually a class leader cause I was a PO1 at the time. You will learn to like swimming that’s for sure.
