Your post expressed very well what I was thinking also, that the chances are good that a free , open , inclusive group will do better than a for profit....especially in todays techno world.
Great story.
I don't mind the for profit part. The creators deserve rewards. But yes, an open, inclusive group is bound to do better than a controlling group and a yearly subscription model. You can do well with a forum. Getting greedy and charging a yearly membership fee is not a good idea when a well run forum provides more for free!

I posted this on Wednesday. It’s not surprising that Bronco Nation is trying to control the narrative. But, it’s impossible to do so in the age of social media.

Bronco Nation is owned by Jackson Dawson, a creative marketing agency based in Dearborn, Michigan. While BN is not owned by Ford, it appears that BN receives support, and funding from Ford.

The rivalry between the two forums is dumb but I get why. In the end this one will win because it’s organic. And so far Bnation doesn’t really offer you anything worthwhile for the extra dough if you want exclusive stuff.

Unless they start getting cool stuff like xplan pins for membership, and exclusive bronco events that don’t have public access, then there really is no reason to spend $70 on a membership

They are owned by Jackson Dawson Communications (as it states in their Terms of Service and other pages on their website) based in Dearborn, MI.

Do some research and you find out that this is a creative marketing firm that is basically owned by Ford and which it uses for a lot of marketing purposes. I have no idea how they can say they are independent and "by enthusiasts" - seems quite the opposite.
Thank you for confirming. The fact their employee literally blocked the view on purpose of the 6G member is BUSH LEAGUE. Ford better be careful not to bite the hand that feeds it. I hope they read this thread.

The irony is that Bronco6G could probably offer a membership plan (no ads or something like that) and would make bank doing it.

Thanks for the post. What is their relationship with Ford Corp? Why would Bronco Nation get first access to news, photos, release info?

I have been a member of several car forums for years. I have been very impressed with Doug and this forum.
Bronco nation is ran by Ford. So it isn't surprising they want their content out first. Not to mention they want people to subscribe to their content with a membership "PAID". It's basically community ran and operated by Ford for profit.
They are owned by Jackson Dawson Communications (as it states in their Terms of Service and other pages on their website) based in Dearborn, MI.

Yes, they are essentially run by Ford, which is why I put "Independent" in quotations. I was going to include this additional information, but the post was already too long. Thanks for adding this in for others to see!

On the final day, for the scheduled Q&A, I set up to record the session for accuracy. It turned out no new information was provided, but regardless, Bronco Nation sent an employee to stand directly in front of me. I know this, because as I adjusted and moved, the employee took note and continued trying to obscure my camera... I found this to be very petty and unprofessional.

My takeaway for all of you: If you are attending any events in the future, just be aware that Bronco Nation clearly sees Bronco6G as a threat to their business model and they don't necessarily act professionally or respectfully towards you, if they know you are posting unique content to Bronco6G.

I would expect that no matter how tight the hold on BN by Ford is, there is a clause that requires them not to act like douche canoes and risk Ford's reputation.

Exactly. Ford tried to come along and create overnight a Bronco community (which it can control) by paying for it, and recouping the costs by charging members. Reminds me of this Jeep training guide page (below) on the Bronco.... the guide was silly but there was one part they got right:

"With Bronco out of the market for 25 years, it has fewer fans. So, seeing how strong Wrangler's organic fan base is, Ford has hired a marketing company to try and build one for them."

Funny thing is there was/is already a strong organic 6th gen Bronco fan base here. Silly Ford ?‍♂

Manufacturing and monetizing excitement is always super weird. 6G is an organic and real community. And that is hard to fake.

Also, being rude to a human being over a car blog is dumb.

Had no idea. Appreciate the info. All I knew was they are linked directly from the Ford.com site, so I just assumed it was a Ford project.

For profit , big corp type, trying to step on us regular folks is extremely poor taste.
I'll close my "free" account there immediately.
Let me know how you close it, as I can't seem to find out how & I'll do it immediately.

Also, just looking from the super celebration, there is definitely a large fan base for the nameplate as a whole. I don’t think there is any shortage of organic fans for the Bronco.

After discussing with Doug, I've decided to share what I experienced and observed at the Bronco Super Celebration - West Event.

The goal here is to bring awareness to some friction in case any of you choose to attend public events relating to the new Bronco and are looking to share new information that you gather with the Bronco6G community.

Bronco Nation is a for-profit "independent" marketing firm that utilizes an image of being a group of enthusiasts to try and grow their business. You can check out their site for more information. I'm not commenting on whether or not aspects of what they are offering are beneficial. You can decide that for yourself.

They depend on being the first to release information and exclusive content in order to draw in more paid memberships. When other sites such as Bronco6G "leak" information, it impacts them.

On the first day of the public event, as many of you know, I captured a lot of pictures and asked some detailed questions. Doug and I uploaded this new information in near real time to the forum, for all of you to get new looks at the Bronco.

On the 2nd day, I made an effort to visit the Bronco Nation team to learn more about them (I had not researched them much before this). They already knew who I was and provided very cryptic answers to my genuine interest. It was a pretty awkward exchange... I got weird looks from many of them throughout the rest of the event as I continued to ask the Ford team more questions and take more photos.

Again, I'm not commenting on the service they provide to their members, just bringing to light my experience with them at this particular event, so that you can take necessary precautions to ensure you don't have a similar one.
That's a bummer. Seems like there is a big enough audience for the Bronco to support all sources of information. But I guess not everyone sees it that way.

Real bad idea for a company to be resorting to a nickle-and-dime business model before the car is even for sale, and in today's lousy business environment.
