Yep, Silverton was the cheapest & closest when I booked on Orbitz. My Brother also said that Silverton is partnered with some other casino & has a free shuttle to the strip. His truck terminal is across the street so he stays there on occasion. He can sniff out a freebie 100 miles away & walk 1/2 that distance for free parking. :sneaky:
The Silverton hotel is closing for a remodel the 1st week of August until next year, but the casino and restaurants will remain open.
The South Point would be my next choice.

I stayed at Hilton Garden Inn right off Hwy 160 that takes you right to Off-Roadeo.

Clean, convenient, and NO resort fees.

Looking at the location, Iā€™d say you have positive and negatives no matter what you do. Staying close to the location is fine, but ultimately that doesnā€™t do much for you if you are flying out of Vegas anyway. If you are, Iā€™d stay there and rent a car for the trip back and forth. Many strip hotels have drop offs at their location, so you can see what fits best, or simply just return to the airport. Of note, returning to the airport is offsite, so you have to take a shuttle from that return location back to the airport (they include it), but it adds time.

I go to Vegas frequently and find the strip is one of those places where it doesnā€™t really matter where you put your head. Most people walk around from place to place and then just crash where they got reservations. Iā€™d say you go to an MGM resort and type in your days you are there. That site gives you the day to day cost at each location. If not there, you save a decent amount staying off strip, but youā€™ll add back cost to get there if you want to have fun on the strip eventually. Yes, itā€™s about gambling- but it doesnt have to be. Many people go with families to eat, shop, people watch, and a host of other things for any age. If you Google ā€œtop things to do in Vegasā€- it wonā€™t give you adult thingsā€¦ much of it is family.

So thatā€™s my long speech. If you have any plans to see the strip beyond the rodeo, I would say the Mirage is the best balance between cost and enjoyment. If you want to go lower, you tend to battle it out with what you might get in a room. For a little more, Aria is awesome, and you may find Park Mgm to be a good option (itā€™s a smoke free hotel).New York New York is ok, but busy and the rooms are meh. Cost is good. MGM is a favorite for budgets, but tends to be crowded. Luxor is cheap, but you get what you pay for. Cool for a vegas trip- not so much for staying there. Avoid Circus Circus or Excalibur if you donā€™t want a Smokey room. I avoid even walking through those most times.
just getting back to this now, thanks for all that info, good stuff!

suggest picking the lead bronco at off roadeo... You will have an instructor as a passenger, but they are really nice and let you go faster since you are leading the pack.

seems to be the best option I can find so far, so thanks! Still expensive for two beds and a bathroom, but what isn't nowadays.

I stayed at South Point when I went a few weeks ago. Its about 25 miles from the Off Rodeo. Good experience.
I stay at South Point a lot, best deal for a real casino. One of my favorite spots to gamble as the tables are cheap and you can get free Crown and Cokes all night. My first choice, as rooms are on par with $300-400 a night casinos. Free parking! I have left vehicles there for weeks when going on vacation (fly internationally).

Next step up on strip is Bally's. Good location and better rooms than other similar price casinos. They will nickel and dime you, so watch the extras. Connected to the Paris Hotel so great food is right down stairs (breakfast at Paris cafe out front is worth the money).

If I'm blowing money I stay at Bellagio. Fountain view room...

Try Sahara Las Vegas. I got 4 nights for two people for $217 as part of an Allegiant Air package.

Yeah. I am not big on paying a lot for hotels where most of the time I will be sleeping. As long as its clean and safe - that is my highest priority.

It was frustrating for me because you can search for places and the rates look OK, but then when you go to reserve it and the resort fees and taxes seem to almost double the advertised rate.

Some may call me a conspiracist, but it seemed to me that while I was there and I would search for a hotel/motel - the results were suppressed to only show resorts. Like the resorts had some sort of influence on tech companies to not display your Garden Inns, and what not...but I digress.

Obviously rates can wildly fluctuate based on season and demand. The economy hasn't helped either.

I want to say that my night rate at Garden Inn was around $118 a night, but I went in mid-December and no Raider/Knights games or other big events in town.

The nice part about this Garden Inn is its near a corner going west that takes you directly to Mt. Potosi (about 21 miles) and in the northern direction - it takes you straight down the strip. There are some eateries, gas station, and I believe an Outlet mall right next to it.

Good luck! Have fun!

I moved our OffRoadeo to Friday, we're flying in Thu and staying at the Hilton Garden, gonna try that Evel Pie pizza for sure, Sat morning I plan to explore Red Rock Canyon, temps should not be too crazy this week. Afternoon still poking around, either Hoover Dam or just walk around the casinos and check out all that crazy stuff, flying back out on Sat pm.

Might also opt to see Hoover Dam and the empty lake or maybe Valley of Fire, but that's probably still too toasty out there.

Still open for other fun suggestions, my son is 19, so no gambling (not that I'd have a clue how any of those games work) and I'm not taking him to a strip club either, LOL. He can do that with his frat. Not a father/dad kinda thing :-D

The Sahara was recently renovated. Everything is 5ā. Rooms are big. But donā€™t ask the concierge anything. They have one memorized answer, ā€œI donā€™t know.ā€

Room for 2 with a king for 4 nights was a total of $186 for us! Thatā€™s like $47 a night.

I think they are using rooms as loss leaders to get their clientele up, to get their gambling up, to get their booze receipts up. I donā€™t think that rate will last long.

Buy a six pack and get a Pizza. Their steak house is great, but get ready to drop $150-$300 for 2. A glass of beer is $18-$22. Yikes. Other than that the place is awesome. Free parking too.

so we ended up staying at the Hilton Garden on S. LV Boulevard, very happy with the choice. First night we got there late with our rental car, nice and close to 160 to go up the mountain. After the Off-Roadeo we just took an Uber to NYNY and walked around on the strip for a couple hours, took an Uber back from their pickup location at Excalibur, all worked out great and I didn't have to deal with the crazy traffic and parking.
The hotel is clean, good breakfast, ideal location. Room was your typical hotel room, nothing to write home about, nothing to complain about. Fridge and microwave, comfortable beds.

Thanks for the recommendation! Took us less than 30 min to get to the location. By the way, no use getting there early, the gate is locked until 8 am. But don't be late either. They check all the names before leading you (in your car) up to the parking area, then bus you up to the base camp.
