Pelican and roam cargo boxes are great, but very expensive (not to mention supply-chain constrained). Many of us don’t need that level of gear protection. I’m looking at buying these boxes from container store:

103 qt:https: //www.containerstore.com/s/storage/garage-storage-totes/103-qt.-black-weathertight-tote-with-wheels/12d?productId=11010234

74 qt.:https://www.containerstore.com/s/st...lack-weathertight-tote/12d?productId=11010227

Certainly not as durable as roam or pelican. And doesn’t have foam lining for gear protection. But I don’t need that and with reasonable care these should last.

Those look super flimsy for the price. Just get some Home Depot HDX ones, I use them for all of my camping gear and they're very durable. https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-27-...lack-with-Yellow-Lid-HDX27GONLINE-5/205978361

I have some of those too, but they’re not weather tight. I looking for inexpensive and weather tight for roof or hitch basket.
Ah right on, makes sense. I just toss all of mine in the back of our current cars and head out. Those ROAM boxes are sweet but insanely priced.

I like these. The medium ones will fit 3 across and 3 high in the back of a 4-door. They don't advertise as weather proof but if you left them out in the rain your gear is not going to get wet.

Plano medium
Plano large
Thanks for the links. I have never thought to look at those but could easily add some of those into the camping gear. Even the small one would be good with additional foam to make a psuedo-Pelican case for camera and audio equipment.

If there is a Bass Pro/Cabellas nearby, they were having a sale on the small and medium Plano boxes. I would not put these boxes on a roof rack but they are fine for the cargo area.

I've bought a couple of these while on sale. The regular price is far too high. They've been in the bed of my truck for years and hold up well.

I used foam weatherstripping around the lip to seal the lid. They still aren't weatherproof, there's a spot in the handles that will let in rain, but in 6 years in the bed of my truck I've had no noticeable water intrusion.

Those Planos look good too but I can't find them in Canada, and if I do, they aren't especially cheap.

I use these for overland and my mtbing gear. I like them but wish the hinges were better quality. I’d pay a little more for a hinge that didn’t pop-off the back.

I like action packers. They are cheap and durable. There are better boxes out there...but for the price point they are great. Swag Offroad makes some cool mounts for the Action Packers (expensive). Check it out:
