I see a lot of owners hitting deep water at pretty high speeds. Not saying that is the case here but it would make a big difference.

Snorkels are just for looks anyway. Doubtful anyone gets a Bronco dashboard deep in the water.

No deep water to hit on the gravel/dirt roads leading into a damn motorcycle off-road park. People take their damn cars down the road.

2.7 or 2.3? I noticed the Alternator was lower on the F-150 2.7 than the Ranger 2.3 back when I made my order. Alternator location was one of my contributing factors on my decision back at order time.
both the 2.7 and the 2.3 have low alternators. in comparison the jeep 3.6 V6's alternator is probably a foot higher than both fords

I have never had a truck type vehicle with an alternator as low as the one on my bronco. The whole can ford 33.5ā€s is bullshit. U canā€™t ford less than 8 inches.

Sounds like a lot of other problems other than the alternator...

Wondering if someone is going to come out with a sealed / water cooled replacement alternator. Some Euro cars are running water cooled from the factory for other reasons. Doing a search and there are some replacement alternators for Toyotas that are sealed and specifically marketed to off road folks.

The alternator is located on the bottom of the engine. My understanding is that Jeep and the Land Rovers have them on top of the engine. Apparently if the alternator gets wet, it will fail. Ford advertised a 33.5ā€ Water Fording ability but the alternator sits below 33.5ā€. This is a major problem for those that bought a Bronco with the thought of taking it off-road. The Bronco is a very good trail vehicle but any mud, puddles, water that reaches the bottom of the chassis should not be attempted. This is very frustrating. I sold my Defender 110 and purchased a Badlands to be my new daily driver/trail vehicle. I donā€™t even know if there is a way to fix this as it is not likely to have a new mounting location for the alternator. I presume we will see the water fording numbers to significantly decrease.
Is my alternator under water here? šŸ¤·šŸ»
They can get wet, pretty sure...
Smart alternator, brushless (obviously), exciter/induction. I think if you get muddy water in the bearings, it'll fail. Otherwise, you're not doing it any favours but it'll still work.

Extremely hard to believe if Ford screwed the pooch on something this obviousā€¦
I know it's an old post, but that's funny right there!

You mean like putting the front camera where any winch mount will block it? Or putting carpet and a vehicle advertised with a wash out interior?

I mean putting an alternator in harm's way at least seems a reasonable oversight :poop:

Haha!

That was several months ago when I was bright eyed and bushy tailed. Now Iā€™ve been beaten down to reality.

Itā€™s not the water that ruins them itā€™s the contaminants in the water. Very unfortunate you had a failure first round. Sounds like it was already ready to fail.

Also fun fact there are two alternator options per engine, 210 and 250. Waiting to see when someone does a 250 amp upgrade and relocation.

My Jeep XJ with 4.0L engine has the alternator on the passenger side bottom of the engine.

I was in 24-26ā€ of deep muddy water on Monday and still cranking. Spent a good 30 min on a trail in various mud holes.

That was one of the first things I noticed when I popped the hood of my JK.. The alternator is on the very top AND backwards.

First engine I've ever had that is done either of those
