Hey All,

I did a quick search to see if anyone has mentioned this but didn't see anything. I have a 22 BL 4D, and I'll start by saying that I flippin' love my pony. I've never enjoyed a vehicle like I do this one, for so many reasons! However, I'm a bit concerned, and though I don't think so, I'm not sure if it's something I'm doing, or an issue with the Bronco. And if so, what can be done about it. A few months ago, the rear seal on the front dif had to be replaced. Now today it's going in because the right front axel seal is leaking. I'm just under 30k, so warranty is covering it, but why have 2 seals gone out so quickly? I'll be honest...first, I tried to blame my husband... since he just moved us from Texas to Kansas and the county dirt roads here are blah. But his truck is fine, so I didn't have a leg to stand on. I've not done any major playing in the pony, other than a handful of donuts when we got our first snow a few weeks ago. Certainly nothing like we did at the Off-Rodeo, and like I see so many other stock broncos doing. (btw, did great in reg and Slippery modes, and I fell a bit deeper in love, and its the only way I'll ever enjoy this dang snow)
So, is anyone else seeing seals go out this quickly, and what are you doing about it?

If it makes you feel any better, I had a front axle seal go about 20k miles ago (+/- 55k miles). I'd go with it's just typical Ford quality coming from the factory, luck of the draw.
yeah, That's what I'm afraid of. My last vehicle was a 4Runner that I drove a lot harder, had 290k miles on it before it was totaled in a hit n run. Never had seals go out, only a transmission at 160k

Going to open huge cans of worms on this with fellow B6G members about maintenance intervals of vehicle oils and inspections...but here it goes...

After many hours of research on this WISE B6G forum and the BN forum, I chose to change all my oils and have full underbelly inspection at around 20K miles. YOU DO YOU! I'm not a doctor and I DID NOT stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but I recommend at least thinking about your vehicle's oils (front diff/transfer case/trans/engine oil/rear diff) at frequent intervals, contrary to owner's manual. I know! Blasphemous words!...Perhaps frequent inspections and/or oil changes, could have caught these diff issues you are experiencing. Do your own research here on the forums to form your own opinion about oils.

Chalk up another one who had the front diff seal replaced. Mine was right around the 15k mile mark. I do push the Bronco hard these days - but when that seal go replaced we were still in the honeymoon phase and I was not doing anything any different than what you describe (I also live on a rough county road).

I don't think there is anything you could really do "wrong" to cause this (within reason). It appears to be just one of those things they invented warranties for.

The front diff pinion seal is a known problem and there's a TSB out on it now, though i think it's just a fluid spec change so I doubt it will solve the problem.

Yes, I'm of the same school of thought. But I did stay at a Motel 6 once. (once was more than enough) Coming from a construction company with fleet vehicles, we do regular inspections, and in my personal vehicles, change fluids/filters more often than is suggested... life lesson learned the hard way. that's how I caught these seals both times.

That's us, we're still in the Honeymoon phase! Guess I'm shopping for an extended warranty now

The pinion seal on my '23 was leaking from day 1. The spring on the back side of the seal lip had popped off which can happen when driving them on if the groove isn't packed with grease. Would love to dig into Ford data for each model and part number to see what the failure rates are per 10,000.

OP, did you see this post from last week? I removed the OP's info....

...Howdy Bronco Nation. You guys are going to love this, my wife and I are a "2 Bronco family' now that I moved us from Texas to dirty, dusty Kansas. I hate abusing or getting my Bronco dirty so when my wife isn't around I borrow her Bronco every chance I get and thoroughly beat the crap out of it. I never dreamed I could get it 5 feet off the ground on those long, high-speed jumps. With all my abuse her truck lost a diff seal a few months ago which was replaced under warranty, then last week with more abuse it lost an axle seal so it's headed back to the dealership. My wife is worried about her truck's issues -vs- mine which has been perfect so I just keep my mouth shut when the topic comes up and shake my head. I hope she doesn't find out. Gotta run, she's out with friends and I need to go 'wheeling again......

Even if you caught it early, the leak still happened when it shouldn't have. THey didn't run it so long that the diff ran dry or caused any additional damage, so they did as well as could possibly be expected.

My guess is first one was just bad from the factory, second one was probably a dicey install that ate it up early. It could also be a bad casing and no seal will ever fit right, but that's lower odds than the shop just had Cleetus Jr. doing their first diff job on your Bronco. Now if you get to #3 and 4, then .... different story.

Don't know what's up with the quality of the seals. My front pinion seal started leaking at 7000 miles.
