So I haven't seen it here, but the big/main comparison I see between the Bronco and Wrangler is the axle setup. Lots of people saying the Bronco isn't a true offroader/as good as the Wrangler because of the IFS.

Never really understood that argument because last I checked just about every mainstream off road vehicle (quad or SxS) are IFS and IRS. Never see anyone complaining that they aren't offroad capable.

So why wouldn't a IFS vehicle like the Bronco be just as capable as a Wrangler? Does IFS not scale so well once vehicles get larger/heavier? Or is it all to do about nothing?

Keeping all four wheels on the ground helps when off roading but for most people it doesn't make one lick of difference. Even then, once you have lockers front and rear, lifting a tire doesn't matter much anymore.

For me it's about durability. Straight axle has less moving parts so fewer parts to wear out. An IFS has more parts, more bushings in places that affect alignment when they wear, are harder to replace, and are generally more prone to breakage.

Pick your poison.

The area where the solid axle wrangler has the advantage is extreme rock crawling. It's easier to add some lift and swap springs to get some pretty incredible wheel travel. There are also arguments to be made in favor of the solid axle as far as strength and reliability, (which I agree with) but lots of companies have been doing just fine with IFS for a long time.

If I had my choice I'd still choose a solid axle, but the IFS is going to be just as good (or better) in basically 99% of use cases as far as functionality, and not far behind in reliability.

Typically it’s cheaper and easier to lift vehicles with solid axles too. That’s why it’s so awesome Ford offers 35’s from the factory.

I've had both extremes. Fully independent front and rear as well as 2 solid axles. Lockers in all diffs. The solid axles will always do a bit better when crawling. The fully independent will always ride better and be just as fun on the trail. I don't give a crap what others think about my ride. If they don't like it, then they can go pound sand. So any animosity is lost on me.

The way I see it is if I enjoy the vehicle & it gets me to where I want to go not much else matters. But as stated having lockers front & rear will help when the tires lift.

having all wheel on the ground is safer. when you are teetering on three wheels, you can gain momentum that could tip you over easier.

As said, depends on what you are doing. extreme crawling the advantage has been outlines. But how much of that is what you do...frankly, I want to be able to drive down the road comfortable that my Bronco isn't trying to wander off into the other lane or wherever if you are not fully attentive. My jeep steers like a mob car with 10 bodies in the trunk
