Soul crushing. This is going to be way harder than I thought.

It’s keyed to prevent twisting.

It has a recess that needs to be the a specific depth for reverse lockout.

It bolts down with a screw.

The top cap has three tangs to hold it on. And no room to play with “inside” it’s little recess. Top cap isn’t just a “plug” like I was hoping.

Damn....this sucks...I REALLY wanted to install a white cue ball knob... FAIL!!!!

Thanks for tearing it down, though.

I think this would still be possible to make on a lathe. You could have a stud in the middle of a hole machined to slip tightly over the shaft, and then machine a ring around that hole for the reverse lockout collar to slide into. If that makes sense? I am visualizing it working.

I'm tempted to try it, I have a mini lathe but I can only do soft metals and plastics. I'd want to find a second knob before I started though so I can leave mine in one piece.

You could try and make it out of delrin, or aluminum if your lathe can handle that. I wouldn't think delrin would last long since the threads would also be delrin though. But it would work as a prototype.

The stock knob wouldnt be used, so you could just put it back on if making one didnt work.

I meant to pull measurements off it without taking mine apart. I enjoy driving it too much to take it out of service.

I’ve also been thinking about solutions for this. I don’t have the right tools for it so I’ll wait for you lathe owners to do some tinkering.

I’d also be curious if it’s possible to separate the current cap and customize the top as someone else suggested.

I have been working with MRT Performance in Plymouth, MI on a replacement shifter knob (cue ball style). Will add pics when installed

It is peculiar, I've looked and asked everywhere - no one makes a single shift knob or even a shift boot for the Bronco. What are they all so afraid of?

So I just had my console apart, the R/C lockout is all plastic and would be easy to defeat if it wasn't important to you.
