As mentioned, there is nothing to gain deleting the spare and self-sufficiency to lose.
Lets really roll the dice and delete the gas gauge! ;)

Would be cool if some one made a tailgate conversion like they did(do) on the TJ with a CJ Tailgate. Maybe a flip down tailgate that has the Ford letting like the early bronco. Otherwise im not a big fan of the spare removed with just a license plate hold to cover the bolt holes and the vents that are there.

PS any one know the purpose of the vents being in the tailgate behind the spare?

I did the spare tire delete on my Jeep, the spare fits comfortably in the cargo area behind the seats.

I did it because I like the looks, it's just different than the bazillion other Jeeps out there. I really like it because I can actually see out of my back window now. I got a bit of pop in MPG as well.

I don't think it will make much of a difference with the Bronco because the tub is much higher and the spare sits a lot lower so it doesn't block the view as much.

I own a Jeep and won't be deleting the spare on the Bronco either.
False economy for most.

----------

Some Jeepers run without a spare when wheeling in packs.

One carries the spare, jack and tools.
Another has the hard core recovery gear.
The third carries the beer cooler.

As I mentioned in the tire cover thread, I intend to delete the spare. It isn't necessary for DD. I haven't needed a spare 30+ years. If I do need assistance, that is what AAA is for. For wheeling or longer trips, I'll toss it on.

Same here. I'm currently thinking a future aftermarket steel bumper with receiver hitch and removable tire carrier would be idea. Daily drive with no spare or carrier and reattach it with the spare if I'm taking a long trip or being off road. I'll probably keep it stock for a while anyways just to see if I care. I do get my 30-40 lbs of tools from the back every day and less weight on the back door would be nice.

Edit: the main reason I'm getting a steel bumper is to keep from being rear ended which happens every year or so to me in Houston and I'm tired of it!

I wouldn't do it...it's not a "Jeep mentality" at all that I know of. The vast majority of Jeeps carry spares. It's just a "crazy mentality' if you plan to go off road, and it doesn't look nearly as good as having that nice rim and big tire on the back. It kind of ruins the truck functionally and aesthetically.

Damn dude, that's a low blow! (only 1 of my 3 vehicles has a functioning fuel gauge. Yet all 3 have a spare tire and jack)

:p
