Hello All

I have been reading through these forums for a while as I contemplate ordering a Bronco. Until then I drive a 2019 F150 that is set up for Overlanding. That being said, it was time to change to a different wheel and tire set up to better accommodate my needs. I was in the market for a 35x12.5 inch tire to maximize my clearance and contact pattern while offroad. While searching, I came across the factory GoodYear Territory MT's that come on the Sasquatch packages. They were surprisingly cheaper and readily available, something that is rare to see nowadays with tires on backorder and outrageously priced. So I ordered a set and quickly became disappointed. I will let the pictures speak for themselves. My current Tire Size on my truck is a 285/65R20, Cooper Discoverer AT3s (Which are an absolutely amazing tire, just dont come in a 35x12.5R17)

The GY tires are smaller in tread width, overall width, and height (when added with weight) when compared to my 285/65R20s w/15K miles, not something I was expecting at all; considering they're suppose to be 315/70R17s. With a tire that is supposedly ~12.4 inches wide, I would expect the tread width to be over 10 inches and not a measly 9; also factor in the unweighted height that would likely be shorter than my 285's. Hugely disappointed that Goodyear would even consider advertising this tire in that size, when it is clearly not; not going to get into specifics, I know tire sizes are not true blah blah. I always thought that these looked smaller than a 35 while on the Bronco, and I am right. The last picture is of factory Raptor wheels and tires, to which are much more true to size. Just thought I'd chime in on some personal experience and information here for anybody that may be looking in the future.

TLDR; Your 315/70R17 GoodYear Territory MTs are not playing tricks on your eyes, they are smaller than the advertised 35" size. Shame on Ford and Goodyear!

This is a non-issue. Almost every tire out there measures out smaller than what is on on the sidewall. Also, if you are going to measure the diameter, you need to take a horizontal measurement, not a vertical one. Even the tire's own weight will compress the sidewall enough to make a difference in what the measurement is.

Has nothing to do with Ford and Goodyear. If you are going to complain .. at least complain about something valid. BTW .. check 37s tires .. very few are really 37s.

Very few 35s are actually 35s. Always check with the manufacturer specs BUT most 35s are really 34.4. See below for specs of the DuraTrac in 315/70/17

And ridge grapplers in 315/70/17 are 34.41

I didn't realize people thought it was literally a 35" tire.

So for those who aren't aware... 315/70r17... is actually 34.36" tire.
  • 315 = 315mm wide (12.4")
  • 70 = sidewall is 70% of the width (220.5mm / 8.68")
  • 17 = 17" wheel
(8.68 * 2) + 17 = 34.36"

If it was literally a 35" tire it would be a 315/72.6r17. Which obviously you'd never see... so it would be advertised as 35x12.5r17

Yeah, mine are measured at 34.365" on all four with a lazer tape. I'm sure they're a bit shorter now after putting about 1200 miles on them.

But off the truck they were 34.365" with 6 miles on them.

Better yet, measure the circumference and calculate the diameter.

But yeah, as it has been pointed out, it is not exactly breaking news that 315's and 35's don't truly measure out to 35"

Man y'all seem worse than those on Jeep Forums haha. I am not complaining, just stating what I have found. I am not going to run these tires because I was searching for a larger contact pattern and height than my current tires, as a 315 is advertised over a 285.. ; and yes I know how tire sizes work as I have been doing it for 15 years between Jeeps and Trucks. When you advertise that the tire is the same size as a Raptor, when it clearly is not, then why do so? Ford literally puts "35" tire" everywhere when selecting the packages and tire size. This is truly nowhere near the advertised 315/70 size and might be the smallest size specific tire I have witnessed.

I can't believe Audi had the balls to put a 2.0T badge on my car when the engine displacement is only 1.98L!

I’m fine with it but in OP’s defense, while we have known that they’re not true 35”s for quite a while… that doesn’t change the fact that Ford proudly totes “35 inch tires available on all trims”. Rounding up from 34.365” to 35” is quite generous lol

Goodyear is 34.4 simple check on tirerack or other tire site would have showed that info. Don't hate on Ford or Goodyear do some research
