I don't know for sure but I would be willing to bet that the measurements advertised on a tire's sidewall are what the mould measurements are. Like any other product, it's size when removed from the mould is smaller.

Every 315/70R17 tire is going to measure 34.4 tall x 12.4 wide, its called math guys. That doesn't mean that the tire is going to measure that size. You guys are all missing the point. And are exactly why I made this post haha. This tire is nowhere near the advertised size, as all other 315s are. I am fortunate enough to be able to not be stuck with these tires. But if I did pay for these and got stuck with them, I would be pissed!

And BTW, I opted for Toyo MTs that are actually sized over their advertised 35x12.5. The only reason I opted to order these Territory MTs are because they were half the price of the Toyos and figured why not give them a shot.

Hello All

I have been reading through these forums for a while as I contemplate ordering a Bronco. Until then I drive a 2019 F150 that is set up for Overlanding. That being said, it was time to change to a different wheel and tire set up to better accommodate my needs. I was in the market for a 35x12.5 inch tire to maximize my clearance and contact pattern while offroad. While searching, I came across the factory GoodYear Territory MT's that come on the Sasquatch packages. They were surprisingly cheaper and readily available, something that is rare to see nowadays with tires on backorder and outrageously priced. So I ordered a set and quickly became disappointed. I will let the pictures speak for themselves. My current Tire Size on my truck is a 285/65R20, Cooper Discoverer AT3s (Which are an absolutely amazing tire, just dont come in a 35x12.5R17)

The GY tires are smaller in tread width, overall width, and height (when added with weight) when compared to my 285/65R20s w/15K miles, not something I was expecting at all; considering they're suppose to be 315/70R17s. With a tire that is supposedly ~12.4 inches wide, I would expect the tread width to be over 10 inches and not a measly 9; also factor in the unweighted height that would likely be shorter than my 285's. Hugely disappointed that Goodyear would even consider advertising this tire in that size, when it is clearly not; not going to get into specifics, I know tire sizes are not true blah blah. I always thought that these looked smaller than a 35 while on the Bronco, and I am right. The last picture is of factory Raptor wheels and tires, to which are much more true to size. Just thought I'd chime in on some personal experience and information here for anybody that may be looking in the future.

TLDR; Your 315/70R17 GoodYear Territory MTs are not playing tricks on your eyes, they are smaller than the advertised 35" size. Shame on Ford and Goodyear!
Why wouldn't you just look up the manufactures specs of the tires vs purchasing first?

Your current tires are 35x11.5 load range E:

VS the GY Territory load range C:

Pretty easy to determine mounted height will be slightly less than the Coopers between the 0.17" difference in diameter plus lower load range.

Edited to add column headers for Cooper tire.

I didn't realize people thought it was literally a 35" tire.

So for those who aren't aware... 315/70r17... is actually 34.36" tire.
  • 315 = 315mm wide (12.4")
  • 70 = sidewall is 70% of the width (220.5mm / 8.68")
  • 17 = 17" wheel
(8.68 * 2) + 17 = 34.36"

If it was literally a 35" tire it would be a 315/72.6r17. Which obviously you'd never see... so it would be advertised as 35x12.5r17
Based off some of your recent posts, are you some sort of math wizard? I'm going to guess you deal with a lot of numbers in your job. Maybe a calculator manufacturer or something?

Last 2 Sets of Duratracs I have failed me on the trails. Tread pattern is phenomenal but the sidewalls are way to weak.
If you run the metric 285 or 315 they are not the same sidewall as the 33 or 35.
Different ply counts and load ratings

One set was a 33x12.5 and the next 35x12.5. These were on a Jeep that I did mild to medium offroading with, the same trails and routes as I take my F150 with the Coopers on.

Only speaking of my experience with 5 sets on 4 different trucks, I have never had a problem.

Since I wasn't on your trails, I can't speak to the sidewall hazards / failure you have seen.

I will be swapping out the GY Territory for the DuraTrac immediately at delivery.

Best of luck with your search

They were great tires without a doubt. If I didn't find myself in and around rocks within the mountains constantly I'd definitely consider them again for my truck. That is where the Coopers have been great, as the sidewalls have taken nearly the same abuse and have yet to tear nor puncture; the fate of 4 Durtracs through the 9 of them I've had.

Mounted on the Bronco the the 315/70/17 "35"" tire is actually 33.5" tall.

You could take a 315/70-17 from five different manufacturers and they all would have a different height. Even more when you add in different sidewall plys. 35s is all about marketing. You think people would get excited about the Sasquatch package, Or Xtreme Recon package on the Wrangler, if it was advertised with true inflated and mounted height of 33" or 34"???
