Ford Bronco customers spend big on accessories

Ford says its retailers have sold more than 1 million factory-backed accessories for the Bronco and Bronco Sport utilities, with customers spending an average of $1,700 to accessorize their Bronco.

Average Bronco customer spends average of $1,700 on official accessories from Ford.
Average Bronco Sport customer spends average of $800 on official accessories from Ford.

Ford says its retailers have sold more than 1 million accessories for the Bronco and Bronco Sport

ā€œItā€™s core to the success of Bronco,ā€ Ford U.S. consumer marketing manager Mark Grueber said. ā€œFor dealers itā€™s a great opportunity not only from a profit standpoint but also long-term engagement with customers. Itā€™s a great proof point of what Ford can do and how big this opportunity is going forward.ā€

Ford always planned on making accessories key to the experience of the Bronco and Bronco Sport. Not only were they built with accessories in mind but Fordā€™s build-and-price site was revamped to show optional accessories. Additionally, Fordā€™s safety office and legal teams cut red tape to allow new parts to be offered. Furthermore, Ford Credit increased the amount that customers could finance on accessories.

One dealership really reaping the benefits of Fordā€™s new focus on accessories is Steve Olligesā€™ Team Ford in Las Vegas. Speaking with Auto News, Olliges said that one of his typical Bronco customers normally spends $4,000 to $5,000 outfitting their vehicle with accessories. This has allowed the dealer to boost its profits and will allow it to establish a dedicated 9,000-square-foot accessory shop that will cost $10 million to build.

ā€œI definitely have Bronco fever,ā€ Olliges said. ā€œI feel I could make a living just being a Bronco dealership; itā€™s that successful.ā€

Definitely a good sign when it comes to aftermarket support. If people are willing to spend that kind of money on official accessories (many of which are overpriced and lackluster at best), that means there will be a big market for aftermarket.

I'm surprised that the average is $1700 though. Like... what the heck are people even buying for the average to be that high?? I guess that $3500 WARN winch is more popular that I thought.

Don't forget that reservation holders for the 2021 Bronco got around 220,000 ford pass points which I used to buy new tires for my Camry $1100 and a ARB 47qt Zero Fridge at $900 (not on Bronco online catalog but on the F150's online catalog/page.

Other than that I have about $12k on aftermarket parts and will probably spend another 10k in the next two years to complete my Bronco build.

Good question. I bought the all-weather Bronco floor mats, the platinum black door sill plates, the foldable table for the back, and that's pretty much it. And I didn't even buy it, I spent my Ford Pass points on those items. I would still be interested in the tube doors at some point but not really an urgent priority for any time soon. Other than that, everything else (wheels, tires, lights, rack) has been aftermarket.

Now that I think about it though, if the average bronco owner buys a light bar from the dealer, that in itself with how expensive some of those options are is almost enough for that average $1700. Maybe that's all they're doing? I really don't know.

I'm probably over now with @ORACLE Lighting doing these taillight replacements. And I haven't done anything like most have with lifts and wheels, etc.

Ah that's true, forgot about the points.

Still... 200,000 of those points were only for First Edition customers and those who ordered the painted hard top, and you only receive those points after delivery. I assumed the painted hard top was relatively rare, but maybe it was way more popular than I thought.

And even with those 200,000 points... that only comes out to be $1000. Which means people are spending another $700 on top of that.

Count me in for $600 rear cargo sliding lock box. Dealer threw in all weather Bronco mats when I picked up.

No, you'd go bankrupt because Ford would give you 10 allocations per year.

Consider, you can add accessories when you order. Like Floor Mats, or Mud Flaps. I'm guessing a lot of it is stuff added to orders, so folks could finance it.

You also get 48,000 Ford points ($240) in Ford Pass Points. Though, I still don't know how to spend them.
