I toyed with buying for several years. Every time I get close, one of the club planes needs major work and it makes me glad I rent. You would hope your own plane is better taken care of than a rental, but you never know. Ownership gets pretty expensive with insurance, maintenance, hanger fee, etc. thrown in on top of the cost of the plane. My club currently has 2 super cubs and 4 182s I can fly, so I think I'm content to keep renting for now.
I wish there was a club with a C172 and maybe a A36 for travel near me. I would join that in a second.

As @Razorbak86 mentioned, one of the locals has a lot of cool stuff. It’s really neat to see them fly, but not so neat when you’re in the cub and they need you to clear the pattern.

I think I’ve posted pics of most of his war birds somewhere in this thread. The Marchetti is his newest, but he also got this bearcat recently. It’s big, but not as big as the super Corsair. I can’t imagine being a 19 yo turned loose in these machines with minimal training. There were a lot of destroyed planes and deaths just on take off and landings back then.

One more for good measure:

Are yall at KVBT by chance? Guy on one of the local FB pilots groups was there and I can’t figure there’s too many hangars with a beautiful roof detail like that.

Yes, KVBT is home. It's a small airport with a huge mixture of planes from old warbirds to the newest small private/business jets with everything in between. Any given day you will see planes here that you've never seen before.

I'm blessed with a great club that has a school as well. Two Cirrus, 5 182s, 6 172s, 2 152s, 2 super cubs and a J-3. We've also had a 206 and a couple of Huskies that are no longer here.

Now that I have my comm knocked out I put some multi time in the logbook, got myself check ride ready, and then discovered that very few DPEs down here will do multi rides (usual examiner is taking a break from scheduling anyone for a while).

Cool! I want my multi but no one offers it near me. Multis are on their way out for the GA guys. Seems single engine turbines are the way to go for reliability.

Dead foot, dead engine....

Where in Texas are you? I might be able to help with the examiner situation.

North Houston area, KDWH is home

Unfortunately most of my contacts are more towards San Antonio.

I know no one really likes to ride with the FAA, but have you called the FSDO and requested one of their examiners? They might also be able to help expedite the process.

This for sure. I contacted the FSDO for my multi commercial. They had me scheduled and done within two weeks of my request. Best part, there’s no DPE fees. Only had to pay for plane!!

Beautiful day in the Ozarks. Bad thing about the weekends are the crowds. At least they didn’t park right next to us.

On short final.

This one was taken by my CFI who happened to be over flying the airport on my landing at home. Not often you get a birds eye view of your landing.

Man this makes me jealous, for all the flat land we have, almost all of the grass strips are private use airparks, and we are a loooooong flight in a Cub-type plane away from anything resembling pretty scenery you can land on.
