As @Razorbak86 mentioned, one of the locals has a lot of cool stuff. It’s really neat to see them fly, but not so neat when you’re in the cub and they need you to clear the pattern.

I think I’ve posted pics of most of his war birds somewhere in this thread. The Marchetti is his newest, but he also got this bearcat recently. It’s big, but not as big as the super Corsair. I can’t imagine being a 19 yo turned loose in these machines with minimal training. There were a lot of destroyed planes and deaths just on take off and landings back then.

One more for good measure:

Live pretty close to a collector who has a couple Mustangs and p-40s, a P-38, B-25, a Wildcat and a bunch of trainers. He puts on an airshow every other year (This June 18) and it's amazing, gets warbirds in from all four corners of the Globe. If anyone lives close to South Western MN, it's worth the drive.

The RAF: Featured Airstrip — Trigger Gap, AR

Each month we will be highlighting an airstrip that the RAF has had an impact on. We hope that you will get out and enjoy these airstrips. This month’s Featured Airstrip is Trigger Gap.

Ford Bronco Aviation Photo and BS thread Trigger-Gap-1-1024x768

Trigger Gap (FAA Identifier pending)

The RAF raised funds for this new 3,000 ft. grass airstrip in the beautiful Ozark Mountains through private donations. It’s located on Nature Conservancy lands, and a long-term lease ensures its future. Local RAF volunteers helped construct the airport and have committed to ongoing maintenance.

Trigger Gap is located 3.2 nm south of Carroll County Airport (4M1) in Arkansas. Runways are 10/28 and lined with cones on 200 ft. spacing. Windsocks are located on the SW and NE corners. There are two fire rings and wood on site. Enjoy camping with a great view over the Kings River, famous for small mouth bass fishing. As a special treat, Kings River Outfitters will pick you up and return you. Call 479-253-8954.

Closest services are at Carroll County airport (4M1), 3.2NM North of Trigger Gap (Fuel/Restroom/Shower), use 122.9 for after hours access and 1229 for lock code on gate at Trigger Gap if arriving by car. Watch for local wildlife (deer/turkey) by making an inspection pass before landing. Left Traffic for BOTH runways (Runways 10/28), please maintain 800’ AGL minimum crosswind & downwind pattern with reduced power for noise abatement. CTAF is 122.9.
Please contact RAF Arkansas State Liaison, Dave Powell, with any questions.

Finally got it scheduled, and apparently the FAA now trusts me to not break twice as many things on one plane now

Starting to feel like fall in the Ozarks. Getting in a couple hours of peaceful reading before heading home.

WOW, after decades of false starts the Air Force finally awarded a contract to re-engine the mighty B-52. The fuel and maintenance savings alone will pay for the program.

Late response but man those things are cool to see in action. I was stationed at al udeid (2016-2017) when when they pulled the B-1s for maintenance and brought the B-52s to mid east for first tour in a very long time. So cool to watch them take off. Loud!!!

The green new deal people think the B-52s are a music group. They have no idea what is going on with military aircraft....just that all things that burn fossil fuels must die.

The A-10 has needed new motors since we started operating them at medium altitude during the first Gulf war in '91. The original TF-34s weren't meant for the desert or anything higher than about 10,000' MSL in transit to operating at 500' AGL or less IVO the Fulda Gap in Europe stopping Soviet tank hordes.

Throwing new parts at the old model motors isn't going to do squat. The A-10 ALWAYS operates at a 'reduced' trim power setting our engine guys would set. As soon as we would climb or operate at anything other than sea level on a standard day we were losing thrust...which isn't good when the CAOC restricts you to maintain above 10,000' for weapons deliveries.

No, the A-10 needs new motors, and has for 30+ years. This would have been a great opportunity to leverage two different programs against a COTS solution and actually be wise with taxpayer money.

Eventually another program will be started to re-engine the Hawg, and they will waste millions when it could have already been a done deal.

There is no other aircraft that can provide the type of CAS support the A-10 can (short of an AC-130, and they are mainly tasked to SOF and don't come out unless it's night), and the Air Force keeps having to find this out every 8-10 years.

Whatever...I did my 21, and now I'm just here for the muddin', premium pay trips and overnights!
CAOC. Havent heard that since my DM and Al Udeid days.

Pretty quiet in here lately. What's new with the pilots on here?
Just completed my annual currency in the PA-18 and C-182. Making plans for some Beaver time this winter in Florida now that my daughter moved there. Hoping to make two trips down this winter and getting a total of 8-10 hours of time on floats. Got a lead on a guy close to me doing ME ratings, so I may be doing that in the spring.

A few gems from the EAA Fly-In a few weeks ago in Albuquerque. The 190 was absolutely immaculate.
