Hi guys, i noticed some bad smell on my '22 badlands sasquatch 2.7 when using the advanced 4x4 on regular winter/snow driving.

Never happened on 2wd.

Anyone got this?

Once I used the 4H going off road and smelled the same burning smell that I did when I first got the car, which I assumed was the coatings being burnt off. My dealer warned me of that when I got it.

Once I used the 4H for a while the smell went away? May same case for you?

Gears de-greening will often smell due to coatings burning off and them effectively self heat-treating themselves.

Should go away with use. If not then something else is wrong.

Yeah i will see how it goes in the next days...

Is there any max speed listed for the advanced 4x4 mode?

I often use it on the highway for snow driving and was wondering....

I have a 21 FE and am getting like a burning rubber smell, when I come to a full stop it comes in through the hvac.
Smells like a burning belt but everything looks good...not too sure
What the hell is going on.

4A stops sending power (assuming disconnect the front wheels) when you are like 40mph+
You can see the real time power distribution from the configurable gauge cluster.

Mine smells EXACTLY like propane after parking in reverse in 4A. It doesn't do it any other time.

The smell is the transfer case getting heated and coatings degassing. The OP must be in some very slippery situations for that to be happening, or the opposite of using locked 4wd on a high traction surface for an extended time.

In normal usage, meaning high traction surfaces, there is very little traction difference between the front and rear axles. With ice, and I mean ice not just wintery weather, you can have a huge difference, the pressure/binding gets the 2 quarts of fluid in the transfer case hot really quickly.

First time I ever noticed it was in my 2003 F550, moved to a cold climate and parked on an icy hill. You can also get the same heat buildup when you are using 4wd on dry pavement for an extended time, there is a binding between the front and rear due to different distances traveled and no slippage between the tires and the driving surface, causes the same tension build-up in the transfer case gears, resulting in heat and therefore the smell.

The smell went away after a while, seems ok now.

It was doing it even on wet tarmac, not what i call really slippery stuff....

Can anyone confirm this?

I just experienced this on some really slushy snowy roads, and some slightly spirited driving in 4a. When I got home and backed into the garage there was a strong burning rubber smell inside, and under the hood, like a an old vacuum cleaner belt.
I sure hope it's actually normal.

On the other hand though, this is the best winter car I've ever had. The downside is you get frustrated with everyone else.

I've also been having the same issue on and off. Seems to just happen in winter weather. I haven't noticed it when off-roading in the summer. No dash lights or any warnings. Just that smell. Please post here if they find the issue.
