I know it has been debated and discussed on multiple threads but my delima still isn't resolved as to which build to move forward with as i am newbie to the off-roading world.

My Bronco will not be a daily driver but I want as much as my $50k budget will allow for off road fun! Once I purchase the vehicle I wont have any budget for upgrades for a couple years so I need the best off the line build for my budget.

So, it comes down to two builds. The Sasquatch on the Black Diamond or Badlands on 33s with the swaybar disconnect. For off-road capability which of the two builds is the better option?

Thanks for the input.

They're close enough to almost make it a wash, but from my experience, a 35 is going to make more difference compared to a 33 than an auto-disconnect. You can always manually disconnect, but that 35 with more clearance, better approach, departure, and breakover angles makes more difference on the trail. Just looking at capability...it's the BD with Sasquatch.

Thanks Gamecock for the advice. Since I'm an off-road newbie I am most likely not going to Moab or anything too technical at first so I was wondering if swaybar disconnect is greater than Sasquatch. (y)

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I am also caught in this dilemma. I had decided to go BL, but the wife was looking over my shoulder and said no to the orange interior trim, so ordered BD with Sas. I was a late reservation and I would imagine I will get bumped to 2022. Does anyone know if there will be more interior options for MY22? Would love the have the BL with a different interior.

The orange accents and my wife's distaste for them led me down the same path. The Squatch package is the great equalizer for all the Bronco trim levels.

badlands off roading chops are not just the swaybar , which is important in some situations.

but the armor it comes with that protects the underside of the car

The BD also has the armor. For what it’s worth I was originally BD, then went to BL, but I was never squatching either one. Recently I’ve been considering dropping down to BD squatch with the 2.7 (my BL build is 2.3) to get closer to the Wildtrak, but I think I’ve decided I want the high package.

I have chased my tale around these same iterations, including sticking with the std BD and trying to buy a set of BL 33's off of someone going up to 37's. Finally decided I wanted the upgraded suspension, and didn't want the lead-footed wife driving around with a speedometer reading 2 or 3 mph low. So for now I am going with the BD Squatch, and if the 35's are too loud will try to trade down to BL's 33's. The suspension will be right and the speedometer will read high, which is fine. Still hoping for better interior options when I get bounced to MY22....

I was BD for a long time but finalized at BL 2.3 manual MID as I wanted Swaybar disc, Bilsteins, 33’s and Baja mode. I was not happy with Velocity Blue and the orange interior accents so I went with Oxford White. MSRP <$46K. As an early res holder it will be a 2021 and I don’t think that build has delay issues.

Maybe we can swap your 35s for my 33s 😂 I also will be a 22 and I’m holding out hope they will add MGV to Wildtrak. That’s the only reason why I’m not going that route

As others have said, they are close in price. Since you're only comparing manual transmission options then gearing won't be different.

Other reasons I went with Badlands over BD-Squitch:
  • Access to mid/high package regardless of transmission
  • easier to re-dye the orange seat stitching other colors, with blue you're pretty much locked in
  • Signature head/tail lights. People discount this, however, the light output will be significantly higher with signature..
  • Better set of street wheels/tires with BL, just grab steelies and better 35" tires aftermarket
  • Sway disco is a nice throw-in since the prices are so close.

Ah, sure. Whatever you want to think. I don't really care one way or the other on BD or BL as long as it has Squatch. So I get harmony at home and I get what I want...sounds like I win.

You can build a 2door BL with SAS for $50k
Pricing is from B&P

2.3L engine with SAS and Mid Package $49,820
2.7L engine with SAS and Standard package is just a tad over at $50,220
