I have a pair of baofungs though not this model. They are cheap and supposed to be banned due to the wide spectrum they operate on Was my understanding. Having said that they are reliable and cheap so I keep them and use them.

i believe the FCC was not happy with them because the radios are not just ham but also covers GMRS, which is a different license, hence the “ban”

I don't see any FCC wording in the product website so if they are illegal to use in the US then the FCC just might be auctioning off your Bronco

yeah, I think mine are UV3r maybe. I have programmed in the weather stationsand I use them with the GMRS as well in addition to ham. The GMRS is a different license and the rules are somewhat different. I think my family can transmit is they use my call sign and use proper procedures

I've had that model since August 2021. A lot of people use them at RC and AOAA on the east coast. They have very good range, good sound quality and the batteries last a long time.

I highly recommend getting the
BTECH PC03 FTDI Genuine USB Programming Cable.
So you can use the application Chirp to easily setup the channels.
This guy does a very good job at explaining the features and how to setup your radio.

looking for any feed back on these.. https://baofengtech.com/product/bf-f8hp/
A buddy put me onto these as a cheap alternative until I eventually hardwire a Midland. They can be had for cheaper on Amazon and they work great. However, as another poster mentioned, they require programming on the Chirp app. Mine came with the USB to do this, so no need for an extra cable for setup. Like others have mentioned, these can be programmed to allow you to access channels that are illegal to transmit on, e.g., police dispatch. That said, be smart about how you use these. Overall, they're great for the money. Enjoy!

They are perfectly legal to own, you are just not supposed to transmit on certain bands. Its like saying, “Pencils misspell words.”

Thanks for the clarification. I was not trying to mislead anyone.

I have the BF-F8HP. The extra 3 watts are nice. I have the TID radio Bluetooth programmer which slammed in all the GMRS channels in all of three seconds. I then set channel 100 to our standard simplex frequency for wheeling. I grab it when I leave the vehicle.

I I have an old pair. Haven't tampered with them at all, but turns out one of the channels matches up to Midlands GMRS channel 18 privacy 19.

I have a UV-9G and a set of 5- 5G's we loan out to other drivers.
They are really good at a cheap price point.
Battery lasts all day, does the job.
