I am ready to order my Bronco (got notified from my dealer yesterday) but have a tire question.
I'm ordering a Base 4dr and plan to do a tire/wheel upgrade soon after delivery.
One idea I had was to just have my dealer install some larger (thinking 265/75 R16) tires on the stock rims (I believe these are within the safety spec for the 7" rims and will fit) and have them flash the ECU with the upgraded size.

Question - I know some tire dealers will not install oversize tires, but do you think the Ford dealer would have an issue with this? Anyone have experience with tire upgrades at their dealer?

Thanks!

I would inquire about having your cpu flashed. My dealer does not do it, as Ford removed that ability for them on tire size.

This is what I'm proposing to do on the 2 dr base (mt). Probably going with General APT, which is not a very aggressive AT tire; more of a compromise street/AT tire. That works for me as we're mostly driving on the road with limited dirt/gravel off-road. Getting the Bronco for Northeast OH snowy winters and the Generals are snowflake rated. I compared the weight of the 265/75R/16 Generals combined with the 16" wheels (about 62 Lbs total; 40 for the tires and 22 for the wheels) with the tire/wheel weights used on BB and BD. Those are about 63 Lbs. I would expect the handling will not be affected much using the 265/75R/16s because the unsprung weight is similar, even thought the sidewall height is greater. If you're looking at tires, watch that a lot of tires in this size (or other 32" OD tires) are load range E, which will likely ride rougher and weigh considerably more. My dealer will supply the tires, mount and balance them, and correct the speedometer for basically the cost of the tires (they were cheaper than any of the big tire stores), and do it upon delivery of the Bronco.

Good question, im thinking of doing the same. I'll have to double check with them that they would be able to flash the ecu for me tomorrow.

My local dealer in MT has a sign that they price match Tire Rack and/or Discount Tire. Sounds like a good deal IMHO.

Dealers install larger tires/wheels all the time.
Ask your dealer.

eh - it would be cheaper to just make a same day appointment with your local tire shop anyhow
Ford dealers will consistently give you the best price and match or beat any price you can verify. If my dealers service department was not so odd to deal with I would use them.

follow-up, yes, my dealer will reprogram the ECU to accommodate taller tires.
Hi @Rustytuna - Did you get your 265/75R16 installed on your Base 16x7 stock rims? Any issues with size/rubbing? What about speedometer? Did dealer re-calibrate successfully? My dealer said they didn't think it could be done. Also, if you can, please post pictures! Thanks

FYI... I'm also in San Diego. And every truck I get I always replace the tires. I usually go to Discount tire, and they give me a credit on the trade ins. My last truck(Duramax 4x4) they gave me 100 per tire trade in value. Then I added my bigger tires.

Good luck!
