Base with 33’s is where I’m headed. I like steel wheels and 16” tires are cheaper. I hope there are aftermarket lockers on the market for not too much money
I honestly think that’s a perfect plan, I really hope the base axles have a posi and are not open.

What are the odds we get some footage of a base doing some easier trail and highway driving?
So far, I have not see any pictures of Base on any Terrain. I guess Ford is Only marketing the higher Models as they make more $$$$$'$ than the BASE, even though there are plenty of Enthusiasts who would opt of the Base.

Same. What would be great though, is if Ford allows the base model buyer to select from optional diff gears. That way even if you get a base model with stock 31" tires, you can select the diff gearing that will be best for the eventual 33"s.

I am on a similar boat, but. Not sure how those narrow 16 inc wheels will look with 33s or of the offset will even allow 33s to fit

Easy credit or societal expectations? Whatever the reason, base models are not so popular these days. I know people making quite a bit less income than me, who nevertheless are driving top model loaded vehicles. (They must have some major league car payments!)

All the upgrades and extra stuff is very popular, and lucrative for the car manufacturer. I'm just glad looks like Ford came through with a relatively low cost base option, for guys like me who don't do expensive vehicles. I'll only buy if I can stay relatively close to 30k.

Absolutely. We are incredibly fortunate Ford is offering a Base with a long list of standard features (push button start, Apple CarPlay, Cruise, PW, PL, etc.) at a price to value ratio way better than any other trim.

BB is $4.8k more for $2k-$3k more content.

Guarantee that Base prices will increase at a higher rate over the next two years to eliminate that value gap.

Tbh a base level 4 door with hardtop will start at something like $36k. IMO this is not a cheap entry level price relative to other SUVs in the market. What’s next 40k for a base 4 door with hardtop?

ARB offers an air locker for the Ranger, $999. Bronco models are sure to follow.

With a 10-speed auto, steeper rear gears may not be a necessity except for a better crawl ratio. I doubt street performance would be much different..... there's likely to be a near perfect gear for any speed.

I'm wanting a 2.7/auto which will drive the cost of any model up a few $k. Wondering if it will cost more in the Base vs the higher models. The x-plan also gives a larger discount for the up scale models vs the Base. Waiting for the pricing to come out before making a final decision.

Ideally, I'd like to add a rear locker, bigger wheels/tires, steeper gears, steel bumper and privacy glass to my base. Hoping they'll be avail direct from Ford, but there will be aftermarket alternatives.

I didn’t specify, but I was referring to the two door. That is the one they wanted to get under $30k.

I agree that base 4 dr isn’t quite as attractive from a pricing standpoint but it does have auto transmission standard and is price competitive with Wrangler.

No Bronco is cheap — you can thank the huge price increases Jeep has rolled onto Wranglers over the past several years. They are pricing to demand in a hot market (Wrangler market). From a business standpoint Jeep should probably have done that much sooner than they did. Without those increases all Broncos would cost less.

Given the market/competition Base prices are very good.

Edit: Autotrader shows 2015 Base Wrangler as $23K sticker vs 2020 Base at $28.3K. Huge increase of $5.3K in 5 years. Wranglers are clearly hugely profitable for FCA.

That 1K only gets the locker, then you need the compressor, manifold, install kit, gears, etc. Definitely need to put pencil to paper to make sure you are comparing the full in cost compared to a factory option (like BB with optional read locker or BaseSquatch).

Agree, comparative to a wrangler probably correct. But raise the price much more and I will be saying it’s approaching mid size luxery suv pricing for a base model 4x4, is it worth it

From what I’m seeing base wheels are 7” wide, of course almost all 33”s require 7.5” rims, so new steelies are in order, might as well go 8-8.5 if your changing them.

yep and you’re looking at either going aftermarket wheels or getting a badlands if you want 8+ wide. So might as well stick to base if wheels are person’s reason to upgrade to BB

I don’t think stigma that goes with the moniker “base” is relevant on the Bronco. There is nothing basic about its amenities. The price isn’t basic but I think the content supports the price at a “base” level.

imo if I’m stuck with a 4 cylinder I have no interest in paying over $30k to begin with, but as far as the amenities I think it’s reasonable.
I would like to see at least a posi instead of an open axle if they are serious about “locking out” lockers from the base trim (sans Sasquatch option). But otherwise the vehicle seems reasonable.
