Ok. I'm likely posting in the wrong spot. I want to upgrade my Base SAS to be reliable offroad. I have good tires. Mickey Thompson M/T. No lift. I hear about tie rods breaking. I'm not climbing rocks. But I want to be able to go on trails and not worry about anything breaking. What would you guys suggest?

I have been very happy with my Base Non-SAS when off-roading in challenging but not super technical conditions. I am shopping for a transmission skid plate, given the knowledge that the pan is a critical failure point, as posted elsewhere recently.

We have a base Sas too and do light 4 wheeling and dirt roads. It should be fine for that. Any HD 4 wheeling I would upgrade the trans oil pan or put on a skid plate and get the beefed up tire rod ends. Just be gentle with it and with the Sas package should be durable enough.

Get a trans skid or upgraded pan and carry a inner tie rod with tools to change it and run it…replace/upgrade as ya discover needs/wants…party on!
