Hi all! NorCal fella here, and I'm fairly new to the overland/off-road scene. I'd love to know some popular resources (forums, trip planning sites/apps, vehicle accessory/camping gear review blogs, etc.) for planning exploratory expeditions that the community here can vouch for.

Bonus points if you can recommend some specific places anywhere near the northern California area.

I'll keep this post updated for helping future n00bz like myself in the future.

Thank you!

If you're in NorCal, I really enjoyed the McKinney / Rubicon trail in Lake Tahoe near Homewood (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/ltbmu/recarea/?recid=11820). We took a stock LR Discovery and 4Runner Limited on the trail; it was pretty challenging & we came out with some new dents and pinstripes, but great experience. Scenery and views were amazing.

Dents and pinstripes? Yikes! Do you think it was inexperience or could tech, like 360 cameras, have made a difference?

I was exaggerating about the dents, but a couple of light pinstripes due to tight trails and overgrown branches. Thanks for assuming we're inexperienced, though ;)

I have been using this a lot lately. It is fun to keep track of your trails, and trips. Great for sharing with friends too. Downside is that you have to pay to get all of the features.

Trailmaps are supposedly built into the nav of the Bronco. I wouldn't be surprised if everything you need to find and enjoy these new adventures is already built in.

As you assemble your camping gear, consider gear which will serve you well as you wander into Alaska. The Prince William Sound has some amazing wilderness camping. For that location you should consider Hilleberg tents. My two favorites are the Staika and the Soulo. The wilderness sites will dictate which you pack. Your new Bronco will get us there and back. You have begun an amazing journey!!

Overland Bound has a good YouTube channel, and they have an App.
Here is a video they did on choosing which trim for Bronco;
