It depends. Out west, range anxiety for gas-powered vehicles can be a real thing in some remote areas, like say central Nevada or southeast Oregon far from the paved roads. If you're down to 15 mpg on the highway then you might be getting 10 mpg off-road. If you want to explore a number of side canyons in an area where the nearest gas is 80 miles away, then you could run into an issue after a while and need to make a long round trip just to refuel. Been there once long ago on the highway long, and hope to get back there and off the pavement!Eastern Sierra, SW Idaho is same on remoteness… easy to get 80 plus miles away from fuel/civilization.
