So no one says anything about hood deflectors?
Weird, considering in the other thread mentioned by OP, one guy installed a hood deflector and said it was night and day (amount of bugs on the windshield). Also Ford says it deviates rocks from the Windshield. I guess it depends at what height and angle the rock is hitting but it could for sure help in some cases

When I was at the off roadeo they guy mentioned they replaced 8 windshields so far lol A friend owns a 4 door bronco and already replaced windshield from crack after a month. It will happen so I would say best thing is to call insurance and make sure it's cheap to replace... If not what I did was go to another insurance company that offered $100 deductable for windshields. Some offer free replacements so call around.

A hood deflector really screws up the way the wind goes over the hood. Put one on a 90 bronco and the rain water went forward on the hood. Bronco and Wrangler is a brick in the wind.

Came across this thread ( 3000 mile cross country road trip in Bronco Badlands ) and wanted feedback on the best way to save a Bronco's windshield? Jeep is offering Gorilla Glass windshields as an option. Years ago a buddy had a FJ and cracks/chips/replacements was one of the reasons he traded it in.

Just curious.
I emailed Gorilla Glass Windshield company and asked if they would make Gorilla Glass windshields for the Bronco..they said 90% probability they would.

I got a chip today on my drive. The windshield has already split over six inches.

Yeah stop tailgating. Also never had a rock chip in any CJ I owned, had a couple over the course of 6 classic econolines, my FSB has a pretty upright window, it doesnt have chips. I think its tailgating and driving technique. There is no other explanation.
With the vertical windshield these posts make sense, but, I drove and towed behind a motorhome (with no flaps), a Wrangler for 13 years and never broke a windshield. Other vehicles I have, so who knows? Luck of the draw? Hoping my Bronco is no bigger issue than the Jeep.

"The simplest way… don’t follow to closely."

Oh, and I agree with this, or in the case of towing, follow real close...lol
With the motor home, I assume there was alot of body overhanging the rear axle? That takes care of most rocks.

Another thing to do would be to follow the Ricky Bobby method. Just drive faster and around other cars. Dont be behind anyone. "If you're not first, its your glass"

Lol. It's because you were WAY too close for rocks to reach the windshield.

Nearly every rock chip I've ever got - and living in AK I get a LOT - has come off of oncoming vehicles, so that's not exactly useful advice.

Yep that overhang protects the towed.

I'd look into replacing it with a sheet of plywood maybe?
Too expensive, could probably replace the windshield twice for what a sheet of plywood costs :)

To the guys saying to not follow too closely or to lift it higher. Neither work here in CO. I have to replace the windshields on my f150, wrangler and wife’s grand cherokee average every 1.5yrs. In 2020, all 3 had them replaced in a 2 month span. Since then, I now have windshield insurance coverage on our vehicles.

f150 has a 6” lift and I was 100yrds behind the gravel truck going 65mph. Both the grand cherokee and wrangler were tagged going 70mph by gravel trucks going the opposite direction on the interstate w/ a 4’ concrete barrier and emergency lanes between the 2 sides.

to the OP asking about gorilla glass, Ive had 2 buddies w/ gorilla glass both have to replace their windshields. Is it better than standard glass? Probably. But it doesn't eliminate the issue.

My brother owned an auto glass business for 40 years. Rocks were his friend until the big boys got together and convinced the insurance companies to use their products. Fortunately, all the guys ( and gals) with old cars always went to him for any glass. He knew all by heart and didn’t need fancy articulated arms to install windshields. Of course his shoulders are both gone now.

anyways…. Rocks happen. It’s a big business. Windshields are cheap because they go through a crap load of them. Especially Jeep’s and soon to be Broncos. He had a contract with an airport, kept him busy for a lot of years. Vertical windshields were designed to be replaced often.
