I wish they were lighter but BFGs took me across Mexico, ocean to ocean, back in 1996 in my FJ40. Ever since, every SUV or truck I own gets BFGs from day 1. The take off A/Ts from my BL are going on my son’s truck.
That's impressive - what tires specifically? I have the KM3s on my FJ40. Was considering the KO2s on a new set of 16" wheels from the FJ Company, but I'm on the fence with the A/Ts and might just stick with KM3s.

This is my BL, non-sas, with the optional beadlocks on BFG 285/75/17 Mud Terrains. My goal was a little chunkier look with a more aggressive tread pattern. No rubbing even at full turn. Didn’t touch crash bars. I needed to shave a little off the spare tire rubber stops to accommodate the added thickness. 3rd brake light in original position. I lost a little ride quality and added a little road noise. Exactly the look I wanted.

Bought tires back on Memorial Day when on sale. Paid about $1800 less $70 rebate (Simpletire.com) for 5 tires and $150 for mount/balance (local Firestone).

That's because 315/70/17 is a VERY common size thanks to Raptor F150, and Hummers stock size.
That's even a better reason to stay with the common sizes.

Damn, looking at Tiresize.com info ...freaking Mud Terrains are HEAVY!

Even at that, comparing the GY to the Toyo Open Country 3 AT , the AT's are still considerably heavier.
GY Territory 285 70 17 (C) = 45 lbs
OC3 (SL rated) = 46 lbs
OC3 (C rated) = 56 lbs
OC3 (E rated) = 56 lbs

OC3 285/75 C = 59 lbs
..............................E = 60 lbs

285 75 -17 E MT's
Toyo MT = 69 LBS!!!
BFG MT = 67.2 lbs
Man, you're not kidding! I have a set of 33 x 12.5 Toyo MT on my little Pickup, and each tire weighs 73 lbs! On a set of 15 x 10 Methods, it's an exhausting rotation sequence 😅

OP, why did you forego SAS? You have off road credibility so I’m curious.

Yeah those GYs are freakishly light for what they are, I've not seen any tire in either size (285/70R17 and 315/70R17) that even comes close to the OEM GY territory MT, my guess it they are not going to last and/or puncture easy, you can't just make a tire 10 or 20lbs lighter without giving up somehting

This is the correct upsize for that build. My build also, and is 2.3 MT so it’s geared for a larger tire already. I will go this size but not a mud tread. A real 2” lift will look incredible with this tire size on the stock wheel. No poke = no joke in my book. Leave that shit to the kiddies.

How much does it cost to replace standard Badlands wheels and tires with aftermarket tires and wheels? How much are the stock wheels and tires worth if I sell them brand new?

There are 3 options I’m considering.

1. SAS at $2200
2. Immediate upgrade. (new tires and wheels) - (what I can sell Badlands 33” wheels and tires for) = $X
3. Run on 33” tires until they wear out, consider upgrading then.

I know #1 and #3. Not sure what #2 would end up costing. I think it’s likely the cheapest way to upgrade to 35s. You don’t get the other SAS upgrades, but I can select the exact wheels and tires I want.

Weight is why I went optional more aggressive MT as my everyday tire and traveling. I will have a park heavy tire but those will only be on for a weekend type thing.

I think 285/75 looks a bit better but more companies make 285/70 so they’re likely going to be easier to find and cheaper. I think this is for SL, not sure if you wanted C or E rated.

31” A/Ts on 15” wagon wheels. Still have the tires in barn (plenty of tread left). I changed them out just last year because I was worried about 25+ year old rubber.

OP, why did you forego SAS? You have off road credibility so I’m curious.
reasons:

-I refuse to own a vehicle on Goodyear rubber. Long story….. made the commitment many years ago.

-no offense to the SAS fanboys, but I detest the big flares.

-I wanted the optional beadlocks not the SAS beadlocks

I’ve spent about $500 more than the SAS upgrade and I got exactly the tires and wheels I wanted. Had I bought SAS and upgraded wheels and tires, it would’ve cost me about $3000 more than just the SAS. I’m not paying that much just to keep obtain about 1.4” of total height difference.
