Hi, just wanted to add onto this thread since it helped me make a great decision on the whole hitch rack issue.

I already had a thule T2 and as others have mentioned, it is pretty much a no-go without either a substantial drop-down adapter or a swing out adapter.

I ended up getting the kuat pivot v2 and it is awesome, like it was made for the bronco. I got the passenger side swing out, which doesn't block the number plate, and has plenty of clearance to open the tailgate even without extending the rack past 90 degrees (which the kuat can do).

Don't bother with the rakattach or the yakima ones. They both have issues with the lever hitting the spare.

As you can see i have a black diamond without sasquatch, but there would be plenty of clearance for a larger spare as well.

Cheers!

i have the rakattach and have no issues with it hitting the SAS tire. Have enough space and works great.

Sorry, you are right about that. The rakattach was updated to a version 2.0 which I thought had a non-compatible handle location but seems I was mistaken. The version 2.0 sticks out a lot farther than the 1.0

mine is the version 1. But I think my hitch is longer, it’s not the stock ford hitch, it’s aftermarket so is longer which I think helps. But yes the new version 2 of the Rakattach has a side loading lever so should not interfere.

We bought the KAC Swing Away adapter to use with our existing Saris Freedom 2 bike rack. The KAC is built like a tank and allows the use of the tailgate on my Bronco and the hatch on my wife's Sport without removing the bikes from the rack. The over-center locking clamp just clears the bottom of the tire on my non-sas Badlands. The keylock for the hitch bolt cannot be used, it hits the electrical sockets on the factory tow hitch.

No rattles, everything is nice and tight. Looks like they are out of stock right now but we paid ~$175 which was 50% off.

Just installed the Saris MHS with the 2 bike base and a single tray (for now). With the Saris swing away... with a twist.

So if you use the Swing away the correct way up, the sas spare tire won't clear it. Same with using an extension first, you can get the door opening a little more but still impacts the tire.
I tried a drop hitch adapter, but then that put the bike carrier way too far back for my tastes:

So, I just flipped the swing away upside down with no extension and no drop adapter. It also means it now opens to the drivers side, allowing full opening of the tailgate:

It does put the handle towards the bottom, which isn't as convenient for opening, and lowers clearance a little, but still plenty:

Though if I go rock crawling it'll obviously have to come off, as it destroys the departure angle of the vehicle.

I also need to remove the now upside down SARIS logo. I think it's vinyl so shouldn't be a problem.

Well, I can't say much for SARIS's customer support.

The swing away had a broken plastic cap from shipping. Opened a ticket last week asking if I can get a replacement.

Got a form letter response today of 'sorry this took so long, if you still need assistance open a new ticket' ...

So I guess it sat long enough their system just closed my previous one. I only opened it on the 29th.

I've recommended 1Up USA here a number of times but I just came across some new information.

1Up can hook you up with a rack that looks like it should work well for the Bronco with the tire as well as access to the rear door.

This guy yammers on forever but FFWD to around 6 minutes.

His set up works super well.
Has anyone tried this 1Up config on a SAS? Looks great on the Jeep. I’d like to avoid the weight and complexity of a swing arm. Looks like a good option for a single bike.

We currently just throw our 4 mountain bikes in the back of our f-150... the plan is to replace the truck with the bronco. Has anybody have experience with a 4 bike rack of any sort? Good bad - manageability ?
I have a KUAT 2-bike rack but you can get a 4-bike one as well. Not cheap but high quality and lots of functions. I also got a 4" drop down hitch extension from 4 State Trucks (about $60) and it is a hollow tube extension so it was fitted with a locking no-rattle hitch pin (UHaul, $22). With the drop down, and the rack lowered flat (no bikes) the tailgate can open fully. Nothing rattles around since the KUAT has a cam lock as well.

KUAT is what I finally have now after multiple cheaper racks that failed. 4" drop down hitch extension (4StateTrucks; $60) allows tailgate to open fully. Locking, no-rattle hitch pin from UHaul $22. Nothing rattles around. Kuat has 4 bike options as well. Not inexpensive but worth it for the quality and functionality.

I've experimented with many since having the Bronco. For me, I need to switch out my rack for a trailer regularly so I like something relatively lightweight that is easy on and off.

Originally, I thought I'd want a swing away rack like others have here because that would allow the rear door to open all the way whether bikes are loaded or unloaded. I found those swing aways are all super heavy which is annoying and realistically, I don't really need to open the rear door that often when the rack is on anyways. I go to the trail, unload bikes, and go usually. They r also super expensive. Now, if I never planned to take the rack on or off, the swing away might be more appealing.

After trying a few, I've landed on the Kuat Transfer v2. Extremely reasonable price, decently lightweight, and simple. And you can option anywhere from 1-4 bike capacity. Great specs for mountain bikes too since it goes up to 50" wheelbase and even allows for a 60 lb ebike in the first load tray. This was another factor for me bc I knew my next bike would be an ebike - nice to have that option. Comes with a lock and anti rattle hitch mechanism built in. I also like racks with dedicated arms that grab the tire because to me they tend to hold things in place tighter. As others said, you will prob end up needing a hitch extender. Make sure you buy one that comes with an anti-rattle pin if so.

Basically, a huge PITA vs. just using my old truck tailgate pad lol

I wanted a bike rack that is rated for off-road and would keep the bike out of harms way, so after lots of online research I decided on the “ISI Extreme Duty Off-Road Bicycle Carrier”

I’ve got a bunch of bikes, but the two that make it tougher are these:

I would need a 4 bike rack. These two and a couple of kids bikes. Anything else would be going in place of the cruisers so it would work regardless. It’s on a badlands non-sas. I put a curt hitch on it. Any suggestions that would work for these guys?

New Bronco in production to be built next week, so I had to celebrate and, coincidentally, REI is having a single item 20% off sale today through the 11th (SUMMER23) so I had to pull the trigger on the KUAT Sherpa 2.0 with Pro hitch extender.

Oneup's are truly great, better than Thule and Kuat IMHO, I've run all three at one point or another. Can confirm you will need an extender to clear the spare, and consider an extender with drop so that the tailgate will clear the empty rack. Don't rule out the vertical hitch carriers like NorthShore and Velocirax. Can mount 4+ bikes and not sacrifice departure angle too much like a traditional hitch rack
