So now that my Bronco is set to arrive by the middle of next month I had to get serious about buying a few things. Most importantly for a daily driver in AK was snow tires. The only real option for my SAS was Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3 315/70R17. New I looking at over $1,800. I found these like new used set on marketplace for $1k. They are all 95%+ and in great shape. So at least I'll be ready for the slick roads as soon as I drive it off the lot. It's becoming real now!

Heck of a deal. They look brand new, basically.

I have a USAF buddy who is about to be stationed in AK. He's from Texas, so this is gonna be hilarious. Do you think the grizzly will get him first or the seasonal depression?

Yeah, talk about a score. Guy had them on a Raptor that he traded in. Pure luck.

I'm born and raised, but even I have trouble with SAD (seasonal affective disorder) the older I get. The darkness mid winter can really get to you, especially if you don't get outside at all in the 5 hours of daylight! The bears shouldn't be too big of a concern lol.

I spent a little time in AK near Black Rapids and a bit farther north.. AK can be absolutely brutal in the winter. I dunno how you guys do it, man.

No idea, never owned a set of chains. Used a set once on a F450 plow truck with bald tires though. Sorry I can't help, hopefully someone can though.

Why is that tire the only option?
For a dedicated snow tire there is almost nothing in a 315/70R17. I run Bridgestone Blizzaks on most of my other vehicles and Cooper studded M+S on another. But snow tires typically don't go much past standard factory sizes. So it's slim pickings for the Sasquatch Broncos.

If I went up in wheel size it would be easier to find more options due to larger factory tires uses on 3/4ton/1ton trucks.

I want to use my factory SAS wheels for my winter set and next spring will figure out what I want for summer wheels.

I like what I have read about the tire but I will probably drop down to a 33 or 32 for winter since they are not as wide.

What does 33 or 32 have to do with width??? Height has nothing to do with width, I had 33x12.5 on my Wrangler, same exact width as SAS tires.

I have no issues with width, our winter driving is on hard pack or straight ice. I run a 285/45R22 Blizzak on my F150 and noticed virtually the same performance if not a tad better as the 265/70R17 blizzaks I ran on it previously. I understand the idea of narrower is better in deep snow, but the more contact patch on the ground the better when it comes to icy roads.

Typically, if there's accumulating snow happening I'm driving my 97 f150 plow truck on 265/70R16 Blizzaks. Until I get 8 driveways done (and whoever calls for help)I'm behind the plow.
