Our bronco is one week old, at home. This morning we were putting the doors back on, and the upper bolt for the back left (drivers side) door was not going in very well. We took that bolt in and out then eventually used the bronco tool kit to tighten it down. When tightening it down the bolt snapped!!! Upon talking to our local dealership and scheduling a appt for next week, they’re not sure this is something under warranty!!!!! Curious to hear all of your thoughts. I’m guessing the bolt is cross threaded and will need to be drilled out. If not, ford may have to replace the part on the door or the entire door. The below picture shows the bolt broken in the door and the actual bolt after it broke. Thoughts?

Sorry to hear that. I just noticed yesterday that using the bronco tool kit my door bolt head is starting to get stripped. Seems like the bolts are not great quality

Have you tried matching the bolt at the hardware store? Definitely worth a look.

Any hardware store bolt, same thread/length that’s galvanized should work.

I mean really...we can't expect ford to eat the cost of someone cross threading the bolt on reinstallation...especially, if it is "more than just a bolt" to repair. "not going in very well", should have given you indication to REVIEW before moving forward.

The factory bolts are not galvanized. It's actually an Epoxy coating such as Magni-565. Galvanized/Zinc plating is a very poor corrosion inhibitor.

I’ve never heard galvanized being poor for corrosion as that’s what most lifts use? I won’t argue, if I’m wrong i’m wrong. But that’s a first for me.

What you are calling galvanized is actually a zinc plating. Zinc plating offers less than 50 hours of salt spray (unit of measure for corrosion) protection before red rust forms. The Epoxy/Poly coats give up to 1000 hours. Automotive went away from zinc coating decades ago.

Lift kits come with zinc because it's cheap in easy.

Ah, that’s interesting. I didn’t know they were zinc coated.
