I have been working on a design to add drawers and cooler/fridge slide to the cargo area of my 22 badlands/non-squatch.

I’m attaching a preliminary drawing to get feedback. I’m new to overlanding and camping in general so looking for recommendations that you all might have.
I’ll be planning on tent camping and using this to keep all camping gear organized. Of course i’ll finish the front with drawer fronts to cover the drawer slides. It will bolt down to the existing cargo holes in the cargo area. The black powder coated frame will be 3/4” X 3/4” steel tubing 1/16” thickness. I’ve got 3/4” & 1/2” Baltic birch for drawers and shelf. Going to make the shelf above the 36x14 drawer a slide out and put tie down rails along each side. I’m still deciding on whether to rhino line all the wood or wrap in carpet. It’s in the design phase so constructive opinions and suggestions are appreciated. :)

If you cover the drawer slide fronts, are you still going to be able to lock and unlock them?

Is this for a 2-door or 4-door? Is your intention that the rear seats must be folded to install?

Also, I'm assuming you can pull the drawer and table slide at the same time, you might want to make the back of the drawer a fold-down, so you can access the compartments in the cargo floor.

1. Yes I will have to leave an access to the locking mechanism. That can be done with a small cutout. But still hide the rest of the drawer slide.
2. 4 door, yes both back seats will be folded down for install. However that’s only because of the size of our fridge. Wish we had a smaller one and I could keep this system small enough just for the cargo area.
3. If I have to access the compartments in the floor I plan on just pulling out the drawer and table.

appreciate the reply.

Sounds good, look forward to see what you come up with.

A lot of overland people would turn that into a full kitchen, with a spot for the stove, and a spot for a sink. I'm not suggesting this, but you might want to make that pull out table covered in food grade - stainless steel, so you can cook and put food on it as well as a hot pan, and can easily be disinfected. This way, you have the option if you want to cook there. You can also make it easily removable and add screw on legs so you can use it outside of your vehicle.

op- as a person who has traveled this road I think you’ll find your slide out table as well as the lowest drawer will need to be narrow enough to sit inside the current tie downs. Just my initial thoughts 🤷🏻‍♂️

That looks awesome! Thanks for showing it!
I am worried about the tie downs, but My thought is to remove the hooks and weld “tabs” onto the frame and drill holes so that I can use the original hardware to bolt my system down. That being said i will be dry fitting and will make adjustments if i have to. Thanks for the heads up and showing your rig off. Very well done.

I do like the idea of the stainless steel table. I had planned to set the stove on that table so that access to the cooler would be easy. I hadn’t thought about what to cover it in though! Thanks for that little nugget. :)
I like the idea of some legs for it as well. Hadn’t thought of making it completely removable. I do have another camp table but you can never have enough flat space. Thanks again for the reply.
I look forward to getting started on this in the next week or so and will post pics/vids of the the process.

I would somehow incorporate the rear door as a resting piece.
