Bronco First Edition on the Denali Highway, Alaska. There and back - Twice

A few weeks ago I decided to head up to the Denali Highway. The drive up is just gorgeous, and I actually went back again the following week. +2000 miles on the Bronco, some wheeling and some seriously rough dirt roads and it never missed a beat.

I'm not gonna bother captioning the individual photos, but they're from the drive up along the stunningly beautiful Glenn Highway, Eureka, Glennallen and of course the Denali Hwy.

Absolutely beautiful! I did the Denali highway memorial day weekend 2014 in my Excursion. Left Anchorage at 7pm, stopped at 2am about half way across it and made it home by 4pm the next day. So beautiful up there. I want to go back but now almost hunting season that's a big nahhh.

Anyway the Bronco looks absolutely gorgeous!

Yea hunting season is in full swing. Second time up was during the caribou opener. That was a shit show, no other way to describe it. I'm all for responsible hunting but that place turns in to a disaster zone and between both trips there wasn't a single animal to seen. Even spent some time glassing early in the morning and... nothing. Unpopular opinion but I honestly think they should shut it down.

Maybe I just got unlucky this time...times. The scenery is still worth it though.

I opted to take the paved highways up through Fairbanks a few years back heading from Healy to Copper Center, in a rental car. But one of my bucket list items is to get a Denali Road lottery pass and bring my Bronco all the way from Michigan to Wonder Lake

Is your rig rocking 37s? Also, what mud-flaps are installed? Looks superb!

Another question, lol: What are you using to tie down your recovery boards? Do they have a locking mechanism?

Haha, the Denali Highway is so packed full of tourists in their motorhomes I would have loved to see another Bronco.

Is your rig rocking 37s? Also, what mud-flaps are installed? Looks superb!

Nope stuck with 35" Patagonias and flaps are Rockblokz with thumb screw quick release.

Can I ask for more details on the strap to attach the recovery boards to the tire? Looks like maybe just rubber bungee cords.

So the straps are just these cam jam straps from Home Depot and I cut the tails off so they weren't flapping around. I also ran a cable with a small padlock through them... wouldn't prevent a determined thief but likely to stop an opportunist.
