Really? I was under the impression, based on its application in the Ranger, that the 2.3 was pretty reliable, but I'm sure others have followed the data more closely than I have. Well, for what little it's worth, if it's gonna break down regardless, I think I'd rather have the extra room to wrench on an inline-4 than a V6.
We have a 2.3 in our 17 Explorer with 71k and it has been a great drivetrain. Wouldnā€™t have had a problem buying that engine again if it was the only option, but I ordered the 2.7.

It'll be interesting what they do with the 2.7...since it seems to be against their limits for the transmission already.
Easy! Just change the spec to additional 100 ft lbs permitted lol

Anyone know if weā€™ll be able to use FordPass points to purchase this?

I realize itā€™s not the point of this option, but any idea of what it might do to fuel mileage (worse, better, no difference)? I like power as much as the next guy, but my 2.3L OBX (whenever it may arrive) will see a lot of highway miles.

You canā€™t add power without adding fuel so yes your mileage will take a hit.

Not sure if this has been covered but will the power pack be available for the 2.3 w/ 7MT? Everything I see seems to refer to the auto gear box.

true, but if you don't change drag, you won't need any more power to maintain speed.
if it takes 100hp to maintain 65mph, it will still only take 100hp to maintain 65mph after you tune it and gain +40 (or whatever) horse power peak.

Oh I see what youā€™re stepping in, sure as long as your throttle input never goes over the minimum to get you down the road your mileage could stay the same. In that case what would have been the point of doing the tune.

It's not about cruising at a constant speed.

It's about getting to that speed from a stop, or from a slower speed.

Guess the release of the Ford Power Packs is a no-go. Very tempting to go aftermarket but I sure do like the idea of keeping a factor warranty.

I will believe it when I see it. Ford promised power packs for the 2017-2020 Raptors. Still waiting.
Yep, looks like it's still not a thing for the 2.3l. You can get a black on black GOAT badge though. (Geez!)
