It has been a rumor that ford was working on a 4 cylinder hybrid for the Australia Ford Everest and Ranger. And it sounds like they will be getting a 2.3L in-line 4 turbo ecoboost engine making a combined 360hp and 500lbft. If it’s the same ecoboost that’s in the ranger now (270hp 310lbft) that means the electric motor adds 90hp and 190lbft. That’s a lot of low end grunt!

I’m hoping something like that will come to the Bronco and next Ranger here. I would rather have that then the 3.3 Hybrid in the Explorer.

High chance this makes it to the Bronco. Now the quesiton is what will power the Bronco Raptor/Warthog/R whatever you wanna call it. Will it be the 3.0 hybrid similar to the Aviator? I have a strong suspicion the next gen F-150 Raptor will be something ridiculous like the 3.5 HO Ecoboost + powerful electric motors. So it would make sense for top trim performance variants of the Ranger/Bronco being high powered hybrids also.

The next gen Raptor has to compete with the Ram TRX. I see Ford putting that Rivian partnership to good use in the near future.

that is a big question and since ford is coming out with a ecoboost hybrid f150 with a est 500hp 700lnft. Would ford want bronco raptor with similar numbers (500hp 600lbft) or is the 2.3 hybrid good enough?

Maybe ford will go the High Output route and give the 2.3 a rating similar to the Focus RS (350hp) + electric motors.

360 hp and 500 lbft what is that a 429 Super Cobra Jet? I wonder how many batteries can fit in the back of a old 68 Tbird. Sounds like we got a good engine swap for old luxo barges.

Ford Bronco Bronco Hybrid PHEV May Get Same 2.3L Engine as Next Gen Ranger Rumored at 360 HP and 500 LB-FT? D33EF29E-CEDF-4AA6-89C4-11E0739BA5D7

updated chart. Hard to read a little. But dark is Hp. Light is torque.

Are the turbos on the 5.0 factory style and emissions regulated? ;)
here's a supercharged one.

Ford Bronco Bronco Hybrid PHEV May Get Same 2.3L Engine as Next Gen Ranger Rumored at 360 HP and 500 LB-FT? 1591993913845

Thats a lil more fair. And i think a roots type supercharger would be the only option on a 5.0 bronco, just because of the space. Just adapt the suspension and diffs out of a raptor. Then you got a Shelby Bronco. Speaking of which. They make an F150 why not a Bronco down the road a couple years.

I'd like to bump this thread back up.

I really hope this makes it and is available at launch. I'd get this over a 2.7 if it's not too expensive of an option.

If any of you caught the latest video of the Rivian T1 (I think that's the model) off roading in the desert with high-speed drive and rock crawling - yes, complete with IFS and IRS (haha) - then the partnership with Ford will definitely be at play. The Rivian has 4 electric motors, at each wheel - the torque numbers are RIDICULOUS.

My preference on engines, 7.3 or 5.0, 3.5 powerboost, 3.0powerboost, 2.7 powerboost, 3.5 ecoboost, 3.0 ecoboost, 2.7 ecoboost, 2.3 hybrid, 2.3 ecoboost.

With the powerboost I would probably get it just because of the improved generator output.
