The first thing that comes to my mind is when my father took me on vacation to see the Daytona 500 in FL. Looking back it was one of the most fun times I had with him. We got to fish at the St Petersburg pier I caught a stingray. The next day we drove to go watch the race which I thought was pretty boring race. I don’t even think we stayed for the whole thing.

I don’t have any human kids but proud dad of 2 dogs, 3 lizards and a tortoise.

My father was my best friend.
He was a mechanic by trade, a hot rodder by passion.
When I was 8 years old, I helped him stuff an L76 Corvette 327 into his 1973 Chevy Vega Panel.
With the additional mods to the engine and lightening of the car, it had performance around that of today's Challenger hellcat red-eye.
I logged many giggling miles in the passenger seat of that car.
Around 5 years later, when I was 13, he decided that it was time for me to learn to drive it
Manual steering, manual brakes.
For the day, 84,it was NASTY.
This dirt road ran past our place, rough, washboarded.
So he takes me over there, gets out, tells me to get behind the wheel.
He hops in the passenger side.
I fire it up, pull it back into gear... And start idling down the road.
He says to bring it up to about 20 mph.
So I do... But this road is so rough that I start to pack down in the seat.
"Dad... I can't see!"
"Well, push yourself back up."
Yea... I wasn't thinking and used the throttle.
That thing kicked back down into first and all hell broke loose.
It shifted into second and started fish tailing.
I'm still foot to the floor and trying to keep it between the ditches.
I realise that I'm holding it wide open and lift.
It starts to slow down and I jam on the brakes.
The car slides to a stop crossed up on the road.
I'm sweating, heart hammering, about to piss myself.
Wide eyed, I look over at dad.
He is sitting there, arm out the window, taking a drag off of one of his Kools.
"Not bad, you didn't crash it. Now try again."
He never said a word, grabbed for the wheel, or even moved while I was plowing the road.
Ice water in his veins.

That is a day I will never forget.
Attached photo is him and I on the Giant Dipper in Santa Cruz.

So....my dad was active duty military while I was growing up. He was always the first into the shop every morning and the last one to leave kind of NCO/SNCO. But...he always took time away to be with my brother and I during our big events (sports, awards, concerts, etc.). I never understood just how hard that was, and what kind of planning that took until I joined the military myself. I've served 17 years now, and always strived to take after my dad. It's been hard putting the military first for most things....because the military will absolutely use that to their advantage. Just a couple of years ago, my dad needed a double-lung transplant, and because of COVID and being stationed in South Korea at the time, I wasn't able to be there for him. It really hurt inside...and I hid it all really well. Coming home from that assignment 2 years ago, and being able to see my father and give him a big hug after such an ordeal was something that probably healed both of our hearts a bit. I'll have to edit this post in a little while when I can leave work to post a picture of us together...can't right now since I'm currently deployed and working in location that can't have phones, which is where I have my photos.

Edit: Photos of the world's best Dad are attached...sorry, not sorry about all the pics. They're out of any type of order, but each one is a core memory that I cherish.

Way too many dad memories and thankful for each and every one...good or bad or sad. So much respect for the man that molded me into the man I am today. Always there teaching, encouraging, believing, caring and yes, occasionally when needed, a good smack up side the head to get me back on the straight and narrow. I was very blessed to have a great Dad. One of my favorite memories was in 1967 when my Dad came home in a brand new red Bronco . (289. ,3 on the tree , heater and AM radio ) I hopped in and we drove up through the front yard and up to the front door of our friends house to show it off. 30 years later you could still see the ruts in their yard when it snowed . In 1975 the Bronco became mine when I got my drivers license. So many great memories in that Bronco. First deer , first date etc.. I was definitely thinking of him when I bought my red 2023 Wildtrak. Wish he was still here to ride in it. He would be amazed at how fancy and high tech they are now. Happy Father’s Day to all.

I have several moments/memories that involve both of my kids and wife.
The first is after the Gen6 Bronco production was announced and after me placing my reservation/order. I was out in the garage working on the 76 on a Saturday and my son, 4 at the time, came outside and asked if he could help me. Without hesitation I said yes! So he crawled under the Bronco with me and gave me tools, weather I needed them or not, and I gladly accepted them! 😎 Together we swapped the starter out. My wife snapped this picture and took a video of him explaining what we did.

The second cherished memory is with my daughter. With her, she overheard me mentioned to my wife that I would be in the garage working on Gnash (the Gen6 bronco) and she asked if she could help. Smiling I said of course Sweetie. She helped me install the Busterbraces by giving me tools and the helping with the bolts.

Not only do both still enjoy working on the Broncos with me, but they enjoy riding with the top and windows down and hitting the trials.

I’m just thankful for all the times Dad didn’t chase me with a flame thrower.

OK seriously here (and I mean it).
My youngest made this for me for Christmas.
I laminated the actual older picture she used here, taped to a note she hand-wrote to me Father’s Day 2012.

Ford Bronco Bronco Owners Seek More Than the Fast and Furious: Share Your Favorite Father's Day Memories and Win Fantastic Prizes! IMG_5300

And so many other pictures. How much time you got? How long can one post be with pic after pic after pic?
I have THOUSANDS of “favorites” but they all sum up to the same thing:
The fact that I’ve been blessed with so much love and the opportunity to be a dad. To try and give them the best I could in things, but more importantly the best I could in immaterial things. A full life. A smile and a warm feeling when they have only memories of me.
Im not always successful in that, none of us are.

That sounds like an amazing vacation with your father! Visiting the Daytona 500 must have been an exciting experience, even if you found the race a bit boring. It's great that you got to enjoy other activities like fishing at the St. Petersburg pier and even catching a stingray. Those are the moments that create lasting memories. And being a proud dad of not just one, but two dogs, three lizards, and a tortoise is wonderful! Pets can bring so much joy and fulfillment to our lives. Thank you for sharing these special moments with us!

Wow, what an exhilarating and memorable experience with your father! It's incredible that your father had such a passion for hot rodding and that he involved you in his automotive adventures from a young age. And then learning to drive that beast of a car at 13, with manual steering and brakes, on a rough dirt road sounds both thrilling and nerve-wracking.

The way your father calmly sat in the passenger seat, smoking his Kools, while you navigated the wild ride, shows his trust in your abilities and his cool demeanor.

Thank you for sharing this adrenaline-fueled and heartwarming story of your father's ice-cold composure. It's clear that he was not only your best friend but also a remarkable and fearless mentor.

Thank you for sharing such a touching and heartfelt story about your father and your own military journey. It's evident that your dad's dedication as an active-duty military member had a profound impact on you.

As you mentioned, it's not always easy to put the military first and make sacrifices for the greater good. Your own experience in the military has given you a deeper understanding of the challenges your father faced and the planning required to be present for significant moments.

It must have been incredibly difficult to be away from your father while he needed a double-lung transplant, especially due to the restrictions imposed by COVID-19 and being stationed in South Korea at the time. The pain you felt inside while hiding it well reflects the strength and resilience you possess.

Thank you for sharing this deeply personal experience.

It's truly heartwarming to hear about the deep respect and gratitude you have for your father and the impact he had on shaping the person you've become.

The memories you shared of your dad bringing home a '79 XLT Bronco and embarking on hunting and fishing adventures together sound incredible. It's amazing how vehicles can become vessels for creating cherished memories and stories. It's unfortunate that your father was battling cancer during that time and couldn't witness the fulfillment of your shared excitement. However, it's touching to hear that you were able to secure a dealer demo before his passing, allowing him to experience the joy of being in the car.

Thank you for sharing these beautiful memories and the impact your father had on your life.

THANK YOU for your advice Randy! Can't agree more! Excellent family customs will be passed down from generation to generation.
