For those others interested I made this thread for discussion of the Bronco R's performance in the BAJA 1000. Unfortunately it looks like we will have to wait another day before we see anything. Excessive rain all week has made parts of the course "impassable" too bad, that would have been cool to let the lower class 4x4 rigs flex on the RWD unlimited class.

Does impassable mean it would be beneficial to have more than rear wheel drive?

Isn't it a shame most Baja competitors and winners aren't expected to have that capacity. What proportion of the race course miles are typically over maintained roads? 50%?

I don't think very much of the race is "maintained road", you can check the trail map online. But certainly the conditions generally allow RWD and the added wheel travel and weight/complexity savings is worth the 4x4 delete in most cases.

Regardless I think impassable right now refers more to flooding/standing water anyway.

Which would be a really good time to illustrate the benefits of having 4wd....You know, they should take the Cybertruck out there right now to showcase it too. BroncoR vs Cybertruck, the new Ford vs Ferrari.

Especially since Elon claimed that "it could basically do the Baja 1000", lets see it!

They can't. No windows on the Driver's side.

They seem to have had some problems. They gave up a significant lead over the only other vehicle in their class, and I see a few stops.

Whatever it was they seem to have resolved it, they're back on the move, 2.5 miles behind the SCG Baja Boot.

Saw a tweet from someone that the Bronc was hit by another vehicle, they’ve been stopped here for a while. Not good.
