And there is the "upgraded dash" that was supposed to be on OBX and up.
Yup. This is probably the “HLIP” or whatever they coined it which was dropped from the literature towards the end of 2020. No surprise it finds its way into the Raptor as the tooling was probably half baked 6+ months ago. Will probably be incorporated to all non-Raptor OBX+ trims on 2023.

Kind of a bummer since IMO the real stand out item that feels dated out of the box is the tach. Especially on the higher trims. It feels like Ford just missed the mark on industry standards by not having the full digital in the year 2021/22. At least on premium trims. So it’s not surprisingl to learn they had initially planned for it on the OBX and up and couldn’t get it done in time. They knew, they tried, and they missed the mark.

All good. Our 2021 and 2022s will have the OG basic analog tach design in the future. I gotta assume it will be OG status because it already looks 10 years old today lol

Paddle shifters should be limited to supercars like Lambos, LFAs, etc…
I can count on both hands the number of times I used them on my Golf TDi w/DSG.

My Chevy 2500 has a manual option I have only used that by mistake when I accidentally went past ‘D’ and selected ’M’ and wondered why I wasn’t up shifting. The wife’s CX-9 has manual choice too haven’t really saw a use for it when ‘sport mode’ gets the job done. I don’t see a point of toggling through the 10 speed offered for the Bronco. If you’re wheeling you’ll be in 4 low and be between 1st and 2nd. Change my mind.

end rant

My Taurus SHO has paddle shifters and they have been worthless to me from day 1. I am a person that grew up with shifters on the floor (automatic or manual) my hand just goes there to rest. I like the bump shifters for the automatics better than the paddles. Thank God the Ford left the shifter in the Bronco and didn't put in that rotten knob like the one ion my wife's Mach E it might have been a deal breaker (not really but that is how much I hate paddles) :)

Having owned sequential shifter cars amazing the ignorance of the advantage of paddle shifters. There is a reason performance vehicles have them, since you have to remove your hands from the wheel to shift.
Honestly wish my F150 had them since manual shifting with a button is stupid.
Though with this auto transmission the advantages are still there over a button or moving the shifter.

Paddle shifters on a truck seem silly, especially when you are sitting that far off the ground in a Raptor or sasquatch. There's no imagination left to convince your adolescent self that you are in a race car. Although, I do really like the gated automatics where you shift over into a gate with +/- so it somewhat feels like you are rowing your gears. This was more common in the mid 2000s. Had it on my 01 Acura TL and CL, and 08 A6. Although the Acuras didnt hide the side gate with a boot, so it was visually more pleasing.

Might be old news but, for me, I am more excited about the crash bar covers which should be available aftermarket. Is that just a regular mod bumper?

You know nothing about pre running if you think people are in 4 low 1st and 2nd. Most the time we aren't even 4WD. It would be really cool if people understood what the Raptor line was built for and if they haven't done pre running then maybe just keep their opinions on functionality to themselves.

I'm not going to do water fording so I'm not going around dumping on the Everglades snorkle.

Yes I can see high speed desert Baja 1000 type driving where selecting your own upper gears could be helpful. I was thinking more along the lines of crawling.
On my daily I haven’t really used paddles, I don’t foresee myself looking to set a record lap time on the Nurburgring with my Bronco (has anyone taken a Bronco on the Ring?). I appreciate engineers giving us the ability to choose but modern automatic transmissions do a good job of picking the right gear.

The paddle shifters are 100% useless in the Rubicon, you'll get no argument from me on that. I also think they are more of a status symbol than real functionality but we'll see how I use them. I've had to drop down a gear in an automatic in silt before. When we do Snow wheeling we normally run in 4 High and go as fast as possible but I could see maybe using the paddles for that.

IMO, Ford should stop making"special" versions of the Bronco until all reservation holders get theirs.

Paddle shifters are usless if you are going slow. BUT if you are in the dessert speeding along at 60+ mph you do not want to take one had off the wheel to shift. you want both hands on the wheel and reaching for the paddles is much easier. This is why super cars have them as they tend to go fast.

The F150 Raptor also has paddle shifters for the same exact reason.

look at the 50 sec mark as he catches air ... you want 2 hands on the steering wheel

Sadly we don’t get the opportunity to do much hi-speed pre-running here in the wilds of Connecticut. The wife in her youth did smash up a Bronco or two though…
