Found some more good info

All Broncos came with shields. Alternator failures led to a revised/improved shield that was used for '23 models. Failed alternators not initially covered under warranty but now (and have been for a while) are along with shield upgrades. There is a TSB.

Folks don't seem entirely convinced the new shield is more effective or much changed.

The problem is the 2.7l Bronco has a low hanging alternator that would make me not want to go deep with it anyways
