I don’t know, but it seems like a lot of Bronco’s are involved in accidents . Is this defect we haven’t discovered yet?

Glad you are ok!
Yea...It's called under age DUI. Put the little person in jail for a few years...maybe they don't do it again.

Unfortunately, they probably won’t. Even in the past when it was more accepted, they would only take your license away but that really doesn’t stop you from driving. Now days I’m not sure they even do that.

Glad the Party involved is ok.

Also, now that I see the Hero Switch console just pop out makes me wonder how much access there is underneath it to the head unit and under the dash...It would be cool if you didn't have to take the whole dash apart to get to the head unit for like adding an amp.

Well, the person inside is okay so it did its job. It also did very well in crash tests. Sounds to me like you're trying to put a negative spin on a positive outcome. They are lots of reasons you may not see collapse.
That wasn't my intent and I'm happy there was a positive outcome. Yes, there are many reasons.

This is my Bronco. My heart is broken but we all are at home safe. I drove a Jeep for years and absolutely loved it. When Ford introduced this Bronco I couldn’t get to the computer fast enough to order it. I’m a 43 yr old female that’s not really into vehicles and don’t know much about them. My husband and son helped me pick this one out and after a year I finally received it. I was blown away. Everything about this vehicle is amazing. It held up like a beast. I received my Bronco on Dec 17th. Had surgery on Dec 21. I had only driven it a few days before I become a passenger due to my surgery. The surgery I had was serious and personal but to walk away from that crash with only 5 stitches is unheard of. God is good. Ford is tough and I will DEFINITELY be ordering another. I will keep everyone posted on the insurance and how they all turns out so everyone will know if anything like this happens to another Bronco Owner. I pray it doesn’t. Yes we really were going around 50 mph and it was down a mild hill. Not sure on the other car. Last minute swerve from my husband was an excellent decision due to my circumstances still healing from surgery. FORD has impressed me far above than I could have imagined. Man…. I loved my Bronco and can’t wait to get another. Impressive FORD super Impressive and job well done.

The Bronco's safety made sure the owners of this Bronco walked away to tell the story... hit head-on going 50mph by a Crown Victoria / Grand Marquis driven by an underaged drunk driver. Good thing Bronco driver swerved last second to avoid full complete head-on contact. The Bronco only had 300+ miles on it. The drunk driver received a cut to the head and was at least insured.

Damn, looks like that car just had a fresh air filter installed too! Joking aside, I'm glad that the Bronco did its job and protected you in the crash and I'm hoping that you can get into another soon.

A crushed vehicle is the successful transfer of energy to the car which is not passed on to the person inside. If anything, one would hope the Bronco showed more accordion-like collapse than this.
I’m thinking it may be a function of the steel bumper. Who knows. May also have to do with angles and the fact that the Sedan sits lower.

That is incorrect.

While it's true that the contact is 100mph each vehicle will absorb appx 50% of the impact, thus a 50mph impact per vehicle.
Speed is only one of several factors in determining the severity of the accident. The more accurate measure of severity would be force, part of which is determined by speed. However the mass of the two vehicles relative to one another has a much greater impact. (i.e. I'd rather get hit by a Fiat going 100 mph vs a Freight Train at 20 mph)

I believe what you are getting at is each vehicle will absorb 50% of the force, which in a purely scientific sense is true (there are environmental factors that will skew this distribution a little but for the purpose of this conversation we will consider them to be de minimis). Since Force = mass x acceleration and both vehicles will experience the same force, the bigger vehicle will experience less acceleration than the smaller vehicle (this acceleration is what is considered to be the "impact") therefore giving the perception that the accident was less violent towards the occupants of the larger vehicle. This why in auto accidents (or any collision for that matter) the larger vehicle will continue to move "forward" while the smaller vehicle will change direction to match that of the larger vehicle (or some variation of it).

The introduction of crumple zones to vehicles is what allows the vehicle to absorb acceleration (or deceleration) without transferring it to the passenger compartment. This is why you are more likely to walk away from accident today than in the 1950s/60s, but you are also more likely to sustain major damage to your vehicle than in the 1950s/60s.

Looks like the Bronco went up on the hood of the Crown Vic which as long as the Bronco doesn't enter the passenger compartment of the Crown Vic and the Crown Vic doesn't cause the Bronco to roll is the best case scenario for both drivers. Means a lot of the forcers were transferred into the ground instead of into the vehicles.
