This is definitely the first thing I would try too. Disconnect the battery, then let it sit few minutes to allow all the charges stored within the vehicle due to internal capacitances to dissipate (might be able to also just press the horn until it no longer honks if you don’t want to wait). Then reconnect battery and try again.

At least you weren’t out on a trail in the middle of no-where. I am sure we will see some of those stories pretty soon. Sensors, interlocks, computer processors/lots of code, is there a limp home mode?
May be a bad battery or battery not able to charge fully. I know when my wife’s FJ battery started going bad ( not enough voltage to start the truck) her dash lit up just like that, would hear the truck starter clicking but no vroom vroom.

Friend of mine left his Land Rover at my house as he was going to be gone for about 6 months. That thing was possessed! Things would turn on and off all by themselves just sitting in the driveway with no one near it! The brits have never been able to figure out automotive electrical systems. Anyone remember positive battery cables being hooked to the Chassis and all the grounds were switched On the old MG’s?
