I’m going to head up there today. I didn’t get a permit so may just drive up to show the kids the horses or just park and risk it.

When does the permit requirement expire? I'm planning on a trip up there at the end of October. Not sure we'd park anyway, so it may not even be an issue, but I'd like to be prepared.

Edit: Answered my own question, it's first Saturday in October. Permit only required if you're going to park.

Technically, yes.
But you have to go through Corolla (the last official town limit before Carova beach) to get there.
Googling either on will get you the same map and general idea of what's going on there.

Been going down there since I was a kid in the 70’s. We lived in Sandbridge and drove the beach from Va to Duck. Down there all the time, but we boat over from Knotts Island where we store the boat. Got a beater Chevy truck stashed over there. It’s a beautiful place. Where we stay is 11 miles up from where the road ends (Corolla). Locals get chapped when you called Carova “Corolla “ because Corolla is where the rich/uptight tourists stay. Then they try to drive up the beach in their crossover SUV and we have to pull them out.
Anyhow- it is a great place to rent a house and get away. Just don’t forget anything.

I didn't know Topsail had beach access, or if I did, I forgot.
Holly Shelter is about 20 miles south of North Topsail. I went there in Dec 2016; there was/is an entrance right off 17.

We have business in Topsail later in the day and decided to make a day of it. Little business and a lot of fun.
