I bought mine out of state. Make sure you explicitly tell them no dealer service fees or they will play the "surprise numbers" game with you if they are not a reputable dealer. If they do that walk away immediately.

Beware of shipping scams. Don't go for the low bidder truck dispatch companies. If the price is too good to be true then they are just lying, they do it all day long. They will tell you $500 and charge you a deposit up front via credit card for a few hundred bucks, then when it comes time for pickup they will say there are no trucks available and they need another $1000 to secure a driver. If someone picks up the phone and is from India, hang up immediately. 95% of these scammers are bait and switch with India call centers. It's not worth your time. Ask me how I know!

I was quite satisfied with the out of state experience, the dealer played no games and the numbers were exactly as we discussed. I didn't entertain any shipping options. I spent under $100 on a Greyhound bus and the dealer picked me up at the bus station. It was totally worth the trip.

I’ve always thought of cars as partners in crime for life’s escapades. My old one? It’s like that friend who shows up late, eats your snacks, and then asks for a ride home. This time, I want a car that pulls its weight. I dipped my toes into leasing, and that’s when I found https://carplus.co.uk/ This site is like a buffet of options for car enthusiasts. Fancy a sleek new ride? They’ve got you. Need a budget-friendly used car? Check. Whether you’re a weekend wanderer or a commuting warrior, their flexible lease terms and competitive rates make the whole process smoother than a freshly paved highway. And the dedicated account manager? Think of them as the GPS for the leasing journey — no wrong turns here. I’m sold on the idea of leasing. It’s like borrowing your neighbor’s shiny tools without the awkward, “When are you giving it back?” My next car is going to be smarter than my ex — and by ex, I mean my old jalopy.
Thanks for sharing your experience — super helpful for anyone buying out of state. Totally agree on being upfront about service fees; those “surprise charges” can be a nightmare. And your advice about shipping scams is spot on. It’s always better to go with a trusted transport company, even if it costs more, rather than falling for a deal that’s too good to be true. I’ve heard horror stories about bait-and-switch tactics like that sounds like you’ve been through it firsthand.

I live in the Chicago area but bought my Bronco from an Iowa dealer called Granger. They were great to deal with, organized with no surprises. They were already familiar with out of state customers which made things easy. I'd highly recommend them.

+1
I have a close friend buying Ranger from them in the next couple months. He’s making the pilgrimage, because i told him about my experience and the pricing is worth his time to make the travel from the Chicago suburbs.

I sell motorcycles in PA. We sell many bikes To out of state customers. The only time there is any “surprise” is when a customer represents their trade as “perfect” and when we get eyes on it, it’s not even close. For this reason, we NEVER give an exact trade figure over the phone. If you have a trade, that’s the only area where I can see you potentially running into any dealer push back. Otherwise, it’s a VERY straightforward transaction. We give a rock solid figure with all fees BEFORE we ask for a REFUNDABLE deposit and then give the potential buyer a week to think it over. If you are financing through one of the lenders the dealer works with, they will collect your home state sales tax in addition to the agreed price of the vehicle and their document/prep fees. If you are bringing your own cash/certified check, the dealer should not collect the tax but rather you will pay the state sales tax when you register the vehicle in your home state. In either case, the dealer will include in their fees a 60 day temporary tag. Some dealers who conduct business close to a state border will actually have the neighboring states plate on hand eliminating the need for the temp plate. A “reputable” dealer will not pull any bullshit and give you a total before you head in their direction. Good luck. If you have any specific questions, DM me - I’d be happy to discuss at length.
