This. When I saw the Jerrycans in person all I could think is “That’s primer!” Lol
It was placed next to the A51 color. It was close enough to a reference to see CG for what it really is, gray.

No. This color is dynamic to it's environment. It's gray first. The perception of a green or blue is dependent on the lighting and the local colors. If you focus on the carbonized gray, it will appear greenish in full light (a bit washed out tho). Otherwise think of this as a magic color that will always be the color you might want at the right time.

I was showing the paint sample to my daughter and making it change color by placing it next to dark gray (blue/green), then next to the grass (gray), then next to the beige motorhome (green). She thought it was super strange and cool.

The one thing I can say is that it's a dynamic neutral color. You better remember where you parked because it might not be the same color when you get back.
Sounds pretty cool! Thanks a ton for taking the time to do this. I have been so confused with this color from the beginning and this really help clear things up.

A51 seems like the same sort of color.

I'm fascinated (as I'm sure many are) color illusions/theory and how our brain sees them.

Cactus Gray you think has green in it, but as you mention it's more blue than green. The name "Cactus" already implies green, and hence why most of us think that. Jet Fighter Gray makes me think of like an F15 and so I expect a grayer color.

A51 looks teal in some light but looks like a gray blue in dark light.

It's strange especially when these are "flat" paints and not metallic.

Its like that viral picture of the black/blue or gold/white dress. It was one picture but depending on the person, they percieved one or the other.

Just because I cannot leave well enough alone, I bought the touchup paint for Jet Fighter Gray and applied it to test samples today.
In the case of Cactus Gray (CG), there is just not 'well enough' information available.

Long post, sorry. Lots of photos.

The black looks like regular carbon black in the supernatant.; however, there is a blue/green tint in the pellet (polymer) fraction.

One more thing...
Because I'm 'that guy', I've included RL comparison with Sting Gray (Jeep). Yes, I did ask permission to take these photos.

Note on the lighting:
It was about 5pm, cloudy (Delta's fault).

Personal note: I do like this color. It is dynamic and is a "Local Color" paint. It changes color based on your perception and the light/colors around it.
I will keep the samples and revisit the photos on a sunny day in the future.
I like it......leaning towards Carbonized grey. Love o see it first hand live.

Ditto on seeing the Carbonized Gray live. I keep going back and forth between Cactus and Carbonized. Hopefully by December we'll see enough real time pics of both to decide.

If you live in east Texas where you are surrounded be the piney woods you will see the green. If you live in west Texas, were the only thing green is a mesquite tree, you will see the blue.. LOL

I've read that Cactus is the same as Fighter, but I don't see it in all the pics/videos. That being said I like both (maybe Fighter a little more). Thanks for the in depth pics
It is called Jet Fighter Gray for the Ford Mustang and Cactus Gray for the Bronco.
They are the same color code, 1JJAWHA.

Wow, yo da man. Of course, it's another color I can't get on the Base model...

This would be sharp with a white top, or a black top. Going to look weird with the gray.

Ford, are you afraid to make something perfect? Design and engineering teams, don't worry, I don't blame you, it's your becursed Marketing group's upselling attempts.

I want Area 51, or Cactus Gray. Will end up with one of the Blues, or maybe White. Carbonized Gray?. Might be the only one that looks right with the gray top.

Can I get the Carbonized Gray wheels, of course not. Again, maybe I'll just get a 4" lift on my Outback if I have to be disgruntled, I'll do it in a vehicle that gets 500 miles on 17 gallons of gas.

Why is Ford Marketing building in disappointment and forcing so many to just settle and take what you get? It makes no sense to me.

@Lab00Rat This is awesome. I am on the fence between CG and A51, as I know many others are in the same boat. Any chance you will be doing this same analysis with A51?

Edit: or any chance you already have done this?

Thanks Lab00Rat for your excellent work! I have been planning on Cactus Gray as soon as I saw it. This really cements my decision. I am replacing my 1978 Embassy Gray Scout. This color has many similarities especially in sunlight and shade. It also seems to have a nice reflective quality to it. Although the color on the the Scout is always Gray.

Here's a video with a couple of Mach 1's testing on the Nurburgring...one of which is in Fighter Jet Gray paint. Watching a video gives another good perspective of this color...especially because it's moving and shot from different angles. Enjoy!
