For those who have had cam phaser issues repaired how has reliability been since? Our 24 OBX with 2.7 liter had cam phaser failure at 495 miles. Was told it would be ready yesterday but it wasn’t, they said it should be ready today but called and said it’s taking longer than expected. I certainly don’t want them to do a rush job but I question if everything is put back properly if they’re have difficulty doing repairs. Hoping those that had these repaired haven’t had problems.

They are likely waiting for one time use fasteners or some other part. Phasers are not a particularly difficult job for a qualified tech, and he/she has likely done them before. You can ask the service advisor what the hold up is. They may have not got started on the job as soon as they thought they would.

I have a 23’ badlands 2.7. Headed in today to get started on my second cam phaser repair. Beyond pissed off to be honest, especially how bad they messed up the first time.

That is my concern with any major repair...nowadays....do they actually have enough qualified mechanics to handle the issue?!

I typically dont trust anyone anymore in todays world. I work on all my other vehicles i own including throwing a Godzilla 7.3 in my 59 f100 but due to this being warranty work…. I wasnt going to touch it. Last time they did my cam phasers my turbo intake and exhaust was not actually fastened. I had oil all over my cylinder heads and fire wall so i told them to check my valve cover gaskets (they said no theyre fine). Valve cover gasket was twisted and the oil came from spitting out where that was twisted. Crank case vent hose wasnt even put back on.

Now that im going through this headache again im going to a different dealer and have contacted Ford Corporate and escalating dude to constant and reoccuring issues. Either going buy back route or a fix with an comped extended warranty. I want to bang my head against a wall. Luckily everyone i spoke to on the phone was understanding and very helpful. Ive owned Fords my whole life. I have a 67 f100 as well with the original 352 and trans and have zero issues. Wish they made them like they used to.

Well had the cam phasers done on my 24 badlands 2.7 at 1200 miles now I think it’s starting to do it again at 1800 miles gonna let it develop a little see if the sound gets louder because right now I’m not 100% sure last time it was blatantly obvious

I know very little about this issue....but is it true the noise is only at start up? What would be the negative long term affects if not corrected? Thanks.

Yes only on a cold start meaning the engine needs to be off for several hours then on a cold start it only does it for a few seconds best way I can describe it as it sounds like an old school mechanical Cummins 4bt diesel, long term if let go would chew the metal apart that’s slapping together causing the noise don’t let it go
