My question is: can I fit a couple of 2x4s in my 4D soft top? Has anybody done it before? If so, how?

Haven't done it with my Bronco but when picking up 2x4s or trim with my Jeep, I usually leave the back window open and let the extra length hang out the back if greater than 8', or I'll put down the passenger window and put them in diagonally so the extra length pokes out the passenger window. If it's a significant amount of lumber, then have it delivered or borrow a buddy's small trailer.

And to think, you made a conscious decision and decided this is how you could best contribute to the forum this morning.

OP, as posted, put the back seats down and stick them through the back window. I have done this plenty of times in my JKU without issue.

Luckily it’s only a couple, hence the reason I’m planning on just doing it myself. Thanks for the intel!

Done it a few times now. Trip home from the closest Home Depot includes a 10 min trot on a 80mph toll road, so not comfortable sticking it out the back with back window open. However an 8 foot 2x4 will fit completely inside.(I think the most I’ve gotten at one time is 8 boards,) Goes from the tailgate to about 3-4 inches from the infotainment screen. I put a towel down on the center console. Just make sure to tie it down good and not brake too hard lol. A 6 footer will fit diagonally behind the front seats with the rear seats down no problem.

And god forbid you use your SUV as a do-it-all utility vehicle 🙄. It’s not like we’re talking about putting lumber and mulch in a Ferrari.

OP:
I would like to buy a 2x4
Clerk:
How long would you like it ?
OP:
I would like to keep it.

OP:
You may get a better response as to the Bronco's ability to transport your lumber if you include the full parameters of the task.

Also, you may just end up with 10 pages of smart-ass replies, after all this is B6G....

You could also drop the top and stack a bunch on your rollbar if you pad it or make a cradle, and ratchet them on. Hillbilly lumber rack.

Here's how we 2 door people do it, it's a 2x2 and not a 2x4 but you get the idea.

When I haul 2x4s in my Mustang I just leave the top down. ;-)

The Home Depot guys give me weird looks but...
